I hit the brakes and it just slid into the back of a trailer. Everyone is fine thank god. Now the question is what car should I replace my Civic with?

Glad everyone is OK and you didn't continue sliding under the trailer. What's the budget? What are you thinking of? And the answer is not Miata!

Celica. MX6. Probe. MX3. Sentra SE-R. NX2000. 200sx SE-R. Cressida. Turbo Saab.

Something cool.

That 4wd Focus/Toyota that was on E-bay, and much talked about yesterday.

It should buff right out?

If you are going new I would take a look at the new Cruz.

Lightly used is most often my goal however.

If you want a family hauler then a Ford 500 seems to be a lot of car that has not held value well.

Something sporty? Mazda 3 or 6 are worth a look.

Upscale? BMW E34

SO many cool options... need more info to compute.

It was a small trailer behind a F150. Whatever the insurance company gives me plus a little extra maybe. As far as what I was thinking of, something small reliable fun and I would kind of like ABS.

XJs seem to be "the answer" right now. I just need an E36 and P71 to complete the GRM collector set.

Cherokees are fun in an agricultural way. It's like a really really fast lawn tractor. All terrain tires, stick axles, and loose steering box makes a fast sweeper or quick transition fun in a whole different way. Super late braking and a heel-toe to redline downshift is, well, interesting in an XJ. I imagine the driving experience must be similar to an early 1900s race car, but with better brakes.

Please give me someone to live vicariously through and get a 92-93 celica GT/GTS and don't ruin it like i did.

Another Civic? I really like Honda's when it comes to DD's.

I like the MX3 idea the best so far. How reliable are they? What about an E30?

MX3s are pretty small, and they have other downsides: my buddy owns one, and to quote him, "It's so slow I get mad at it." Oh, and the transmission in his just Swiss-cheesed itself.

I would go for the E30.

Bad luck with the Civic, though. You live in Doylestown, right? Whereabouts did this happen?

MX3s are very reliable. Don't bother with the RS model, ONLY look at GS models.

You should EASILY be able to get one with a KLDE/ZE already swapped into it for under $3000. There are two in my area right now for $2500 or less. Both with ZEs.

Owning/having owned both, though.... (lesley, don't kill me) Celica > MX3.

Stock for stock, the Celica gets better gas mileage, has more room, feels like it's got better build quality, and is more reliable. Handling, while subjective, is similar, with the MX3 feeling slightly more "tossable," while the Celica feels more planted stable. Acceleration is pretty similar, though the MX3s motor is more "fun."

But if you like the MX3 idea best so far, then get one. Get the Mazdaspeed front bumper. It's smexy.

He have an RS or GS? The RS is annoying-i'm-growing-a-beard-before-i-get-to-60mph slow. The GS isn't bad at all, paired with a manual.

And yes... the G-series transmissions aren't the most robust of units. Another point to the Celica.

The Civic DX is so slow it can't get out of it's own way. And I live in Huntsville. It happened on Slaughter Road.

I don't know if ABS would have saved you in this case. Looks like you smacked it pretty hard. In the $2500 range given your specs you are pretty much limited to FWD econobox or something based on a econobox.

Glad to hear everyone is OK.

Let's all take a second to admire the engineering that went into allowing that Civic to impale itself without (it looks like) significantly compromising the passenger compartment. There was a Suzuki SX4, of all things, on a flatbed in Oshawa this week; everything in front of the windshield was compacted down to about the depth of a sofa cushion, but it looked like all the doors could still open normally. This is impressive.

I was kinda impressed the way it collapsed. However I wasn't going that fast when I hit and also the airbags didn't go off.
