You're young. $4k is a HUGE stack for a car, IMO. Don't be turned off from hondas because a dealer (never, ever, ever, ever buy a used car from a dealer) boned you. It's the 'easy button' of cars. Good gas mileage, well built, parts are cheap. Spend 1-2k on an integra, save the rest. Ymmv. I don't live in the great white north!
Thanks for all the ideas. I'm currently in Erie with a borrowed Mini Copper S. When I left I didn't think it was a good idea to take the Civic so I left it with my dad. I would have to agree that valve seals was a bad call, but it was out of my hands since I was 5 hours away. The dealer is a good guy and I highly doubt he had any idea as to the cars problems. He offered to buy it back and make it right even though he didn't need to so I have no problems there.
I'm going to have my dad look for and buy a car for me to pick up when I come down for my birthday or thanksgiving. Stuff is less rusty and cheaper in southern Pa so it'll be nice to look for something down there.
Im currently trying to decide if i really need awd or not. I personally think that fwd or rwd is just as capable as awd in the snow if you have good tires and take your time. Honestly the best, easiest to handle car i've ever had in the snow was a Miata and decent snow tires. I just think that the added height of something larger would help keep from bottoming out when it gets deep.
Its only september and it was already in the 40's last week

Don't make fun of people with stutters.

There was an AWD Vibe/Matrix. It's a pretty unsung car. Might be a bargain.

Yeah! when I was in college I also found myself needing a car. I got a E150 that was older than me for free. Keep in mind, paying less for the car initially means you can use that $4k for gas, which in my case didn't last very long... 11mpg sucks.
