Clifford's Gvw is 22000 lbs

I think I have a manual at home that has the dimensions. It's going to be tight if it works at all. Have you considered a 6V-71? It might fit better. I once put a 6V-53 in a 77 Dodge Power Wagon and it was a pretty tight fit - Just to give you an idea. I'll see if I can dig that manual out, although I suspect you can find the info online faster.

6v71 will fit length and width, but is way too tall for the engine bay. oddly enough the 6v53, 4-53, and 4-71 will all fit. I just wonder if the 6-71 spec measurement of 56" long was including the bellhousing and the big fan up front.
I basicly have a a 45" long space at the top of the engine bay, unlimited height(except for the 7" of space at 44" where the axle and steering are), and 29" between the frame rails, but that opens up to 36" or so just above the frame rails before the inner fenders start.

Yea, the IH equivelant to clifford ( ) was a cab over in '63.....
This is a very cool truck but i fall in with the rest of the very polite downers who say trying to make this truck go 70 safely sounds like a bottomless pit of effort/money that may end up with a permanently disassembled vehicle, and at best ends up with something i still wouldnt want to sit in a lane next to on the highway @70.
But it's a damn cool truck and im all for raising its top speed as a side effect of fixing the carb issues on the original motor.

I still want detroit power......with that, I could live with a top speed of 60-65. Because DAT NOISE!
I stopped by the local semi recycler, and they happened to have a 6-71 n/a on their showroom floor......unfortunately the valve cover is 3" longer than the engine bay. The guy asked me what I was wanting to do with a 6-71T, and literally said "You'll twist your frame in half" He said that the 4-71T will fit(its a full 12" shorter overall) and said it'll be more than enough to pull nearly anything I could think of. He admitted a 4-53T would be a great choice as well. We checked overall size on the DT466 as well, its too long as well.
What about a Detroit Series 40? Essentially a Series 60 minus 2 cylinders. It may have a height and/or weight problem though.
or 4BT or 6BT? I know, not very unique, but definitely has the diesel sound with good reliability.
I seem to be a little late here, but in my grandfathers old '68 1300C Dump I was going to retrofit a Cummins out of a Dodge Ram. Unfortunately my uncle sent the truck off to scrap.

I "think", like me, he's addicted to the sound of a 2 stroke Detroit.
I have 5 80s chrysler products. Only 2 run.
I guess im doing good. 4 out of my 6 K-based vehicles are running. But my overall ratio is slightly lower at 58%.

I'm kind of partial to them as well.

I absolutely hate Cummins. As in, even though they're building them here in Indiana(which I should like), our dealings with them have changed my opinions of them as a company. I will never own a Cummins powered vehicle, implement, etc ever again.
And bravenrace is onto me, the 2 stroke is ungodly sounding.....plus they make hellacious torque for how many cylinders there are, plus sticking to the older ones, lacking electronics is a plus(I hate wiring). Sure, I can't put a programmer in and keep turning it up, but why should I need to if I go with a 4-71T making 190hp/500-600tq......if I can't find a good 4-71, I'll section my firewall to allow fitment of a 6-71.
Either way, I should have the bodywork and paint done by July, then I will be prepping for the engine swap. I'll still need to find a rear gear set to swap though.
