It doesn't look like there's a 2010 challenge going on for us west coast folks. Any plans for maybe a 2011 challenge? Dad and I picked up a challenge priced Miata and we're considering what path to take building it up.

It was a San Diego Challenge. Cool concept but way too far from anywhere other than SoCal for anybody not as dedicated as Bryce. A few of us had plans anyways. I was in until I got laid off... twice. Been at the same place for nearly a year now so hopefully all that's done.

If they try one again somewhere more reasonable (Sacramento, Bay Area, Medford, Portland, Seattle, Reno) I would definitely be interested in building a 2011 car. Depending on finances/time off I would even consider San Diego again.

Try Ohio and see how many would turn out.

Im in Tx so i dont care whether its east or west coast.. it all sucks from here!

But many texas teams made it to $2009.

If Bryce were to run the fiero again in a west coast event, i would go to THAT event just to compete with that car. Seriously. And also for scenery. Id prefer to go places i havent gone before, since i dont make many trips like that.

At least, I suspect from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky we would pull about 20 cars minimum.

Heck, half of the Gainesville Challenge entries are from this region or further North

Mid-West would be kinda cool. I haven't been up that way so that's a trip worth making, even if it's just to spectate.

The AMC Nationals are in Cordova every year, usually right after Hot Rod's Drag Week. I really want to make those in my Hornet in 2011...

Me? What can I say, there wasn't a single challenger who could top the Fiero in San Diego!

Being "the" competitor to show, I will say that the San Diego situation was a total cluster. I'm glad to say I stuck to my guns and followed through with what I set out to do, and I'm also really thankful that so many people chipped in to get the Fiero down to Florida after said cluster. With that said, I think the GRM folks would be fools to try another event in San Diego.

As for the Midwesters, seems like enough of us manage to make it to Florida, so i'd say there's no need for a MidWest challenge. Not that i'd be against it, just don't see the need.

I will say this, though... if it could be advertised better OUTSIDE of the GRM membership base, i bet a MidWest Challenge attendence would be staggering. I see dozens of cars every night during the warmer months that with some simple removal of non-essential parts could be perfect challengers, and i know/know of PLENTY of people in this area that could put together some interesting stuff.

The car scene and tinkerers are alive and very well here.

If you started advertising/promoting now for a Midwest $2011 Challenge, i wouldn't be surprised if you saw over 150 cars.

Is it like that where you are Steve? I can speak from experience that Indy and Louisville regions are full of these people.

I think it helps that we live in a state that you can walk into the DMV with a title and leave with plates, with almost no questions asked!

Yeah.... most states would E36 M3 a brick and throw you in jail for some of the stuff i've seen on the roads out here. And i'm not exempt from that, either.

When i registered the Celica, it was sitting outside in all it's completely gutted glory. I left it idling because i was having problems with the starter and didn't feel like messing with it in the DMV lot after i was done. The car was running open header at that time because of the PO.

It looked pretty though. There was a cop on his smoke break pacing around it, and seemed pretty interested in it, peering inside, seeing nothing but bare metal and the associated bracing that was in it. The whole time it was bellowing out it's BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP idle. (Idling really low because of teething issues at the time.)

I walked outside the building to leave and all that cop said was "Nice car."

I continued on my merry way.
