My wife wants some new shoes for her Mazda 6. She does take the car to do HDPE's every once in awhile and does autox about 4 or 5 times a year.

We have several other cars that we also play around with, so this one is not "usually" driven hard (unless her RX7 is in the shop like right now).

SHe currently has Goodyear GT somethin or others that SUCK!

Sooo, what is a good all seaon sporty tire for a 4 cylinder manual mazda 6?

Thanks GRM!

The new Eagle GTs are supposed to be pretty decent.

I bought a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS this spring for our minivan, which are probably the best all-seasons out right now. Though, I wouldn't recommend autocrossing on any all-season as it tends to tear them up. All those edges that give some winter traction get curled up and ground off when driven hard.

Second vote for the DWS. They're not a snow tire, but they do ok in snow. I have a hunch the Hakka 4-season tire would be better, but at $170-each I had to pass.

On my Hyundai I mounted Michellin X-Ice last fall. They did great through winter & I originally intended to swap on summer tires in the spring. But these are holding up so well that I'm just going to drive them all year & get another set in the fall, since I drive about 50k/year.

+3 for the Continental DWS's!

I have them on the WRX, and they have been more than good at putting up with everything I've thrown at them, including some serious snow storms over this past winter. I had Kumho Ecsta ASX's before, and they were easily THE WORST tires I've ever had. They had considerable wear at 20,000 miles, even with rotating them religiously. I stretched them to 40,000, and they were downright dangerous to drive on. The DWS's have over 10,000 on them now, and they still look like they are brand new!

3rd [4th] vote for the DWS. Far and away the best non-snow-tire I have ever driven in the snow. Normal handling, ride, and noise are all well above par, too, even in the wet. And they aren't even terribly expensive. I just put the DW on my 325 and I really like them, too. Handling on those is a notch better in good weather conditions, but I also have dedicated snows for it, so I don't need the 4-season capacity.

I'll be different... Bridgestone RE960 A/S I've got them on my little All-Trac Corolla... and the handling is wonderfully smooth, precise and the car is downright fun!

The RE960 DO perform better than the DWS in dry conditions - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHPAS

In reply to oldeskewltoy:

The survey results are not really comparable. The Bridgestone is a cheaper tire, so people might just expect less from it. Bridgestone is also replacing the RE960AS with the RE970AS. The DWS does seem to do very well in cold and wet conditions even without snow or ice.

FWIW: I've already used the free road hazard warranty that Continental includes.

I'll vote General Altimax HP. Smoother and quieter than I expected, very good wet traction, okay in snow. A great all-season tire, and cheap! Probably not the best choice for Auto-X, but I suspect it would be alright.

I recommend the purchaser check into quality control... Continental/General have had some issues with making tires round

I'm currently suffering from a set of Generals that 3 of 4 were out of round.... a problem I've never had with Bridgestones...
