I once saw an old two-stroke SAAB that had a DKW two-stroke swapped into it! Why? I have no idea, but seemed like unnecessary work for no gain. I know the SAAB design has DKW roots, but still...

I heard someone reference it as "the best engine no one knows about"

One without pistons.

One with pistons, and personally I LOVE this idea.

The amount of want I have for this is unparalelled. holy berkeley
How about a jag V-12 into a vintage Ferrari?
http://bringatrailer.com/2015/01/21/no-sbc-jaguar-v12-swapped-1968-ferrari-365-gt-22/
I was tempted to put a BMW V12 into my '72 Chevy pickup when the 350 had a cracked block. In the end, I went with an LS simply because I wanted to get it back up and running more quickly and wanted a well documented swap. But I still want to do something with a BMW V12 transplant sometime. Hmmm. I've seen them put in a 3 series before... and I have a 3 series...
In reply to MadScientistMatt: I'm interested in putting a BMW diesel straight-6 in my 3 series.
I saw on a forum a 3rd gen Camaro with a 4.2L straight-6 from the Trailblazer.
Later, he put a turbo on it.
I like the swaps that use odd factory parts. Like the Jeep/AMC vehicles that had Audi/VW engines and either a Mopar 904 or a Ford 4 speed manual (or was it a B-W).
Or the transmission in the Supra that can take a bellhousing from a 4 cylinder Dakota that matches the bellhousing pattern for GM engines.
Or the fact that the turbo Lima 2.3 can be bolted to a Zetec/Xflow/Kent/SPI/CVH transaxle. (I don't know how it would do transversely mounted and oiling...)
The V12 Jag had a TH400.
Some of the Novak Adapters can be pretty interesting too.

Dude, so much hate in that thread. Nearly 5-pages before the trolls stop!
Very clean build though
Cadillac 500 + (car name here).
Like the Cadillac 500 swapped into an old Chevy Advanced Design pickup...And by that, I mean he shortened the (FWD) Caddy frame and dropped the pickup on top of it. Apparently a lot of people are confused when they see open air behind the engine, where the transmission "should" be.
Or the E-Mod Yugo, with the Cadillac 500 in the back, and the Chrysler 2.2T in the front.
.
Also: V12 + (car name here).

I swear I heard this engine was acquired by GM from Jaguar when Jag went Ford, but now I can't find anything indicating that. Was I dreaming? BTW I don't mean the old 4.2 Jag engine either.
In reply to spitfirebill:
Nah, the 4.2 I6 was part of the Atlas series of modular engines. I have much love for the 4.2, but it never found the appropriate platform and was cancelled. I'd have liked to see it configured for RWD use and put in the Camaro as the base motor, just like the old days. But in the age of compact V6s, and inliner like that is difficult to package.
I would love to swap a Vortec 3500/3700 I5 in the Volvo.
That sound!!!

Unfortunately from what I've found, in addition to the typical I6 length concerns, the Vortec 4.2L LL8 (all Atlas engines?) is apparently rather tall at ~32 inches.
In reply to Hungary Bill:
Its why I don't frequent that site too much aside from local events or parts.
I really love it and the guys tenacity to get it done.
In reply to Hungary Bill: One guy put a Isuzu V6 in his RX-8 and he got 10 pages of trolling. There are a few too many closed minds in the car world. I also think some of it is individuals stepping out of society's normal boundaries.

The intake manifold would be the kicker for the Volvo. It adds some like 7-8 inches to the height of the engine. If I ever learn how to fuse al-u-mini-um with fire, that wouldn't be a problem.
At least on the I6, the top of the front of the valve cover to bottom of the oil pan is supposedly still ~30 inches. Not sure if the I5 is any shorter, but I hope the Volvo has a tall engine bay...As I'd love to see that.
At lunch, we were talking about various random swaps. Best one we came up with was to take a Geo Tracker and stick a second engine in the back for twin-engined goodness. But wait, we'd connect the rear transfer case to the front one with a driveshaft and send all the drive through the front wheels. Twin engine FWD Tracker FTW!
We put a rwd 4G63 in a Chevette Chump car, it was fun but people are not exaggerating when they say how much that chassis sucks.
