Is there a comparison anywhere between the presumed gold standard Hoosier A7 and other brands of R-comps? Avon, Maxxis, Federal, Hankook, others.....

Hoosiers are great but a damned expensive habit, what are the options for people who don't need to podium at nationals but want to be respectable against the local talent?

Edit: And from a cost perspective, what can one expect from other brands? For instance Hoosiers might have 100 good runs in them which breaks down to $12 per run (!) on a $1200 set of tires. More runs while staying as fast would be nice or cheaper buy-in would reduce the cost-per-run.

BFG GForce R1s, Kook Z214s are both pretty good.

I used to like the V710's as even though they werent quite as fast as purple crack they held up longer (then the A6, this was pre A7).

I have one friend who ran the Hankook R's and did alright on them, but they seemed slower.

Another thing I have looked into is the American Racer bias slicks, but they seem a bit slower and lack feel from the reports I have read. (Prepared and Mod only)

THe Kooks wear well and you get a ton of runs but they lack the grip and feel of the hoosiers from what I've heard. If you want to be fast, purple crack. If not, street tires. lol

The next tier down from Hoosiers: BFG Rival S, Bridgestone RE071-R, Maxxis RC-1, Kumho V700, Kumho V720, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup & MPS Cup 2, Nitto NT01, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Toyo R888, Toyo RA-1, Yokahama A048, etc.

Pick your poison. If it were me, RE71-R or NT01

Toyo RR's are an option as well. Not as sticky as the Hoo Hoo's but will last longer

It was about a 2 year gap between buying my Hankook Z214s and Hoosier A7s, but I remember the Z214s being pretty damn impressive for the price ($800 vs $1200 a set).

The reviews on tirerack mention more than once that they are better than Kumhos and almost as sticky as Hoosiers.

I've heard from two locals that the Maxxis aren't very good. Both recommended as practice tires and that's it. Which is a bummer because their pricing is awesome.

Another option - we are running the Maxxis Victra on the endurance car because the series requires a 180 treadwear or greater. Pace appears on-par with RA-1/NT-01 type DOT tires, price is good... but we have not raced the car yet - still sorting it - so I can't say anything about the performance combined with the longevity except we expect to get 16hrs of race time out of a single set and after 3 open track test days that appears to be within their capability. The car keeps getting faster but that is because we are zooming in on the setup. Too many variables to give credit to the rubber.

That's the route I went. We'll see how it works.

Maxxis make good tires. I have a set of their street tires on my MZ5.

How heavy is the car? Are you on 18" wheels?
