Ok. What 5 door car would you suggest? The only real requirements are 5 doors, new, 15-20k and fog lights.

Does it have to be new, or will pre-owned work? If pre-owned works for you, then 1st. gen. Mazda3/Mazdaspeed3 is my pick. 2nd. gen. Mazda3 may work if you're willing to go ~$18-24K and you can put up with the E36 M3-eating grin.

A NEW car for 15 to 20K? I quess I'm not much of a "wheeler-dealer" because aside from a Kia Rio (do they still sell it?) you aren't getting much of a NEW car al less than 20K.

"Slightly used" opens up many possibilities, some are wagons and some are cars like the no longer sold Mazda 6 five door sedan.

It is for my friend's mom. New is a requirement. What about the Fit or Hyundai Elantra Touring?

I would not discount the Elantra if you can still get it as a 5 door. They were not a bad car
