I posted this because we seem to have a Yin & Yang philosophy here:
Mine is the Datsun 1200 we've had for 36 years; I actually sold it to a friend right after I bought it but shortly thereafter found it was fun to flog, even though on paper it's completely pedestrian.
I've raced it for the last 32 years and even though I have / had faster race cars I have a blast with this one every time I drive it. It's underpowered, moves around alarmingly on it's leaf spring rear suspension and the rods sound like they are going to fly out the block at 8200RPM. It just has that hooligan quality about it that makes it fun.
I had a MK4 Passat 1.8T with a slushbox that I DD'd for 3 years. There was nothing good about the car. Boring, unreliable, horrible handing. For some reason I just kept driving it.
An extremely beat up 3rd gen Prius. Paid almost nothing for it, thinking if it lasted a year I'd be happy. That was several years ago. The thing works well as a dd, slides into tiny spots downtown with ease, and just won't freakin die
Well, I'm working on driving my third Legacy Wagon 5 spd into the ground. When I bought the first one it was as a winter beater that after a winter or two turned into a full time ride until it rotted away (RIP Hot Karl), it was replaced by the following generation and when that one returned to the earth I moved up a generation again but in basically the same car (even the same colour lol). I know there is hate here for Subaru's but those wagons just work well for me and the price is right. I know what I'm working on and how they go together so keeping them on the road is easy. The wagon is awesome for hauling stuff and bikes around but I can also jump on to the track, autocross or rally cross course with it no problem and have fun sliding it around.
I guess that is three cars but when I bought the first one 14 years ago I didn't expect to keep buying them.
Why do I love the Traccord? I don't know. I think it's just the right combination of cheap and competent and crappy. Or something. I'm going to drive it for a good long while.
My 04 Lancer Ralliart wagon. I bought it in 2007 to replace my 95 Accord wagon when the Honda transmission started making me worried.
I wanted a WRX wagon, but couldn't afford one at the time. The lancer was just a compromise.
Finally got my WRX wagon last April. It's gone, the Ralliart is still here.
