Kennedy Engineered Products makes an adapter to wankel-fy an air-cooled VW. I've never been all that interested in VWs but the idea of a rotary bug appeals to me for some reason.

Do NOT do this. I drove one, while it's sorta fun at first it is only good in a straight line and winds up being a terrible car due to antiquated brakes and steering.

My suggestions:

MGB (with proper front suspension upgrades, get away from the lever shocks)

Jensen Healey (pretty simple swap)

Fiat 124 Spider (has better suspension than the MGB, IMHO the best starting point for an easy swap)

Opel GT or Kadett (with proper front suspension upgrades)

Porsche 914 but use the sideshift transmission.

Miata is the obvious answer, of course, but I keep seeing this Lancia Zagato pop up and debating putting it in that. Or...taking my spare 323 GTX engine/trans and making an AWD Zagato...

Put me in for a Miata vote I've long thought the rotary and the Miata belonged together.

Bellhousing will mate, the input shaft works, and the gearing in the Miata is slightly lower.

Good times.

AE86. There's at least one out on the West Coast with that conversion already.

I've also seen them in Caterhams & Westfields, although silencing them to something that can't be heard two counties over can be a problem in that application.

Depends what "reasonably priced" means in this context. I occasionally see some out here but they're usually in the 3k-4k range.
