This is the first time I have seen one of these. Quiz: what is it?
Under 2min. and included a picture. I'm not fond of the front end, but it is one of the best looking SAABs ever.
Burnt engine bay. I did that in mine too.
Did you know that car has a positive ground system? Neither did I until I replaced the battery. You would not believe where fires started
roll bar was standard. Car was a metal chassis with a glassfibre body... as was the flat black on the tail.
and yes, one of the best looking saabs ever
Saab Sonett III, specifically. And, yup, they all came with roll bars and free wheeling transmissions, four on the tree!
Sonett II still has a column shifter, the one like that its on the floor. I saw a Sonnett II in the junkyard once (it was beyond saving), they are really weird.
Specifically, and technically it's a SAAB 97. Sonett IIIs were floor shifted though.
Edit: Oops, Travis beat me to it.
I still want one. There is one for sale on Ebay down in georga for a disgustingly cheap price.. but with no wheels or suspension, it is a no go for me

Doh! I am ashamed of myself.
Satch Carlson had a Sonett II rally car.
the differences between the Sonett II and III are remarkable. Not only did it grow a shifter out of the floor, but it gained a prettier nose with pop up headlights, a hatch, and horizontal taillights. Previously it had a small hatch below the rear window out the rear of the car if you wanted to pull the spare tyre out.
The Sonett II with the V4 was a pretty homely car. The taller engine required a substantial bulge in the hood that did nothing good for the cars looks
The one i saw had been smached in the front, and the nose was gone. then looked ot have been sitting under a tree for many years. Someone did take the rear window before people smashed it, that was about the only good part on it. lol
Jack Lawrence campaigned a Sonnet IV in SCCA club racing. The car was always fast at the Run-Offs, but unreliable and unlucky.
Sonnet II was easier to work on, since the whole nose tilted forward for access. Sonnet III had that little hatch in the nose. I once nearly welded a ratchet wrench to the back of an alternator because of no room to move and too lazy to disconnect the battery.
sorry woody, but your opinion is wrong
I think I like the Iv myself. Looks kind alike a 280Z and a testarosa got busy and it was the poor bastard that came out the other end
I always thought the Sonnet II was the better looking one as well, but they were both cool in a weird way.

That happened once before, too.
And...that's a Sonett III with a V4.
I also liked the Sonnet II better. Pulling the engine on a III is a real pain. And I am partial to the early 3 cyl ones.
