Friend of mine saw it yesterday, we can't figure out what it is...The plate and emblem say "Kelmark" My guess is a kit car of some sort.

I think that you are dead on with the kit car. I believe that Kelmark made some different kits back a few decades ago that looked GT40 like

Never heard of it. According to wiki it was the first street legal car to break 200mph (claimed by R&T magazine in 1977)

That is definitely the Kelmark GT though. I just used some Google-foo on it, and it looks like a cross between a Porsche 904 and Ferrari Dino!!

It has a power-70's look, but swap out the wheels and the taillights, and it would look like a classic Ferrari. I like it.
yeah these were a kit car by the company Kelmark Engineering.
They were based out of Okemos, MI (near Lansing, MI) and my dad actually worked for them a bit back in the late 70's.
He's still got some old posters and brochures tucked away somewhere.
