I am thinking that you will have to avoid "real" cars. Therefore, all of the kit/retired race cars are good options. Spend 15k on a retired road race car that needs a motor and trans. Install a TKO 600 (or something else build from indestructible materials) and install a $600 LQ4 truck engine with open pipes and a fat cam. I think that would be a HELL of a car for half your budget. Way more interesting than a Mustang or Vette.

Yes this is for one of the pay for a thrill ride groups. We're going into our 3rd year of operation and need to add a car. We're still small but selling out most events and the owner wants to add another car to the fleet. I'm not naming the company since they don't advertise with GRM and are focused on the local market. But I know this group would come up with some great car ideas and maybe something we've overlooked. This car would probably be a lower priced option than the Lambo or Ferrari. Keep them coming! Thanks! I'll let you know what we end up with.

Cayman S or GTS with the PDK gearbox.

This is your answer right here. Average numbskull leaves happy and posts "I got to drive a Shelby Cobra" on their Facebook page. You profit. If you get someone's cast off project and finish it, you could probably even pocket some advance money for consumables.

Caterham 7 (especially if you can get an R500 model) or Ariel Atom or FFR Cobra. They aren't common and are fast.

I think there is a good reason that all the places that do this tend to use the automated/PDK/DCT style gear boxes. Not everyone knows how to properly drive a standard and heel/toe on track.

I'm guessing it needs to be street legal - for transportation reasons? Unfortunately, that would exclude a few suggestions...

Yeah, preferably. Need to add that one to the requirements list. However, they do have a trailer, so we may be able to work around it.

Not street legal...yet! I think the main issue here is the door bars. Rearrange a couple of bars and figure out something to open the "door" and you have something that I would be happier to pay money for than thrashing a mustang for less money.

This then build a replica of this...

with copious amounts of protouring touches to the suspension and brakes...

Ok may not get $200 a shot out of it but it would draw its own crowd...

OK, just an update on this thread. The group bought a 2001 911 Turbo Tiptronic. It debuts this weekend at Grosse Ile Islandfest. It should be a fun weekend. I'll probably be in the 360, but for the long weekends we tend to rotate. Ferrari 360 Modena, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 911 Turbo. And I get paid for this.

I think the problem is you can pay $149 to drive the 360 or Gallardo for a few laps at a few places around here. Why would I pay the same or more to drive a $40k car? Who would choose the Viper or Mustang over the other 2?

A ford or Dodge diehard
