The cute-ute/small sub thread plus today's snowstorm (Alaska) got me thinking...
EXCLUDING the Impreza/WRX, are there any new or recent cars or SUV's with AWD and a manual transmission? Preferably that can get close to 30mpg highway and room for a pair of car seats (planning ahead). Budget is no higher than mid-$30's.
Also,
Nissan Xterra
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Audi A4/S4/A5/S5
BMW 328xi/335xi
Jeep Liberty
Dodge Nitro
Jeep Renegade (iirc)
Jeep Patriot
Jeep Compass
Kia Sportage (gen 2, iirc)
Mazdaspeed 6
Saab 9-3
Saab 9-2x
Subaru Legacy
Subaru Forester
Jeep Wrangler and Unlimited
Volvo S40/V50
Volvo S60/V70 (previous gen, spaceball)
That's all I can name off the top of my head.

I should have been more specific on recent I guess, within the last 2-3 model years. And prefer manufacturers that are still extant. Emphasis on the mpg requirements too.
Go to www.fueleconomy.gov and use their Power Search function.
You could give a age range then dictate awd/4wd and manual trans.
It will return back to you all offered for sale in the US with this configuration.
Yeah, Renegade wins IMO. It is at 30 mpgs, new, from a current manufacture, probably not completely awful to drive, and can be had with AWD and Manual. New Subarus with the updated motor are likely good too. That is literally all I can think of with "good" mpgs.
The mid range Jeep Renegade has the Abarth Turbo motor, a 6 speed stick, and AWD for under $25k
2010-14 Acura TL sh awd 6spd
used Golf Type R
Maybe some lightly used Audis A3s, too.

If youre into thst tiny suv thing..Chevy Trax AWD turbo manual. Only a 1.4 though
Fiat 500x meets your criteria I believes. I think the Trax is auto only. I would say Honda Element but that would be stretching the meets 30 mpg criteria.

Element has been discontinued 4 years. But you can hit the MPG with the 6 speed conversion, via adding a 6th gear with acura parts that drop in.
How are the newer (18+) Jeep Compass? I see a lot of rebates/incentives on the 2020s and you can still get a manual box.

Mini Countryman S ALL4
And Clubman and Paceman All4
I was going to say Focus RS, but it won't hit the mileage numbers.
Best mileage I've seen was around 25 on the highway. With less aggressive tires it might pull off 30's, but I don't know.
I can confirm they do quite well in snow and that they can fit 2 car seats in them.
2nd for Golf R.
Our previous car was a MINI Countryman Cooper S All4, which also fit the bill. It was very good to us to 140k km. Only a clutch at around 100k km.
Forget about car seats in a Paceman!
2019 Golf R has been flawless to 25k km. It's a fantastic car, and, along with the eGolf, the last remaining German built Golfs available in North America.
