Don't get a neon. Soul-less, no. Reliable, so-so. And I dont want to think of how a 6'5" driver would fit, but it has far more leg room in back than most other small cars.

God... You people are both the best and the worst to ask this question to. I come in thinking Im gonna be persuaded into a decent appliance car. Now im dreaming up things I can do to that E28, or negotiating someone down on an E30 so I can finally get one and drive it as the fun car lol

Thats why I love this forum haha

A bit, but nothing to srious (to me). Drove it 600 miles the week I bought it with no worries. My $1200 '91 was nicer to start and needed much less. Sold it with mods and an uninstalled 5 speed swap for $2300 iirc. I wish previous rides would still show up.

This is it with the new owner.

HAHA I wonder if the same works when it is ludicrous amounts of hot out rather than cold. Ambient 110 degrees here today.

It works with anyone who sees the car as used-up and you see the car as just getting started. Remeber, most all private sellers are selling the car becasue they no longer like the car (or like some other car more.)

I'm right at 6'3" and was around 220 when I had my MKI. I had to fold into it kind of since they sit so low, but once I was in it was fine. Not sure about the MKIIs, but I do know the MR Spyder had much less legroom, so I never even considered one.

Get a real appliance then, instead of something nifty that has potential like that car.

When I bought my 944 turbo he wanted 10k and I came back with 6500. It took a few phones calls back and forth, but he ended up letting it go for 6600. I just wouldn't budge and I knew he needed it gone. I don't like lowballing people, but when it has saved me several thousand in the past I have to try.

Integras are almost impossible to find around here... Escorts are a possibility but a couple of friends had very little luck with them and they were bone stock... Neon is an interesting thought as they seem to be all over. Kinda scare me though. They just feel like they aren't worth half of what people ask for them. How is the maintenance? I like the idea of a celica... Ill keep an eye out...

A $2000 Escort GT will have NO problems and be in minty shape. The "problems" a 91-96 Escort will have will be the 1.9 motor, and automatic transmission being E36 M3ty. Neither of which will be an issue if you get a GT 5spd.

Decent cheap Neons are starting to go the way of the Dodo, but they're out there.

1986-1999 Celicas are some of the most reliable cars i've ever had the pleasure of owning.

But if you want to keep them stock and boring and you get an escort or celica, you'll have to refrain from reading my posts in the future.

I did and bought a 2000 Accent 3 years ago. Put about a grand into it over the 3 years we've had it and expect another 2-3 years out of it by the time it's used up. Cheap to fix, 38-40mpg, cold A/C and has been really reliable. This one will see 250k miles.

Thanks!

That car was free, and still under your cap after some work.

Oh and keep in mind that a $2000 car is just as likely to need lots of love as a $500 car. Thats one reason I said to buy low and maintain/mod up to your price point. A car you buy for $2000 is really a $2500 car once the services are up to date unless you have all the receipts back to new.

Sort of OT, my new favorite craigslist sub $2k searches are "Low miles/Low mileage." Some pretty cool stuff pops up.

SW20s are HUGE inside for a two seater. Much bigger than AW11s. I'm 6'2" and it's one of the few cars that has several more notches on the seat slider than I can use.

I hadn't realized how tall you were, or I wouldn't have said Saturns.

Oh wait... sorry... I got nothing...

I paid more than 2X your budget for my E30 and I wouldn't want to use it as a DD... but my commute is a 100+ miles a day.

I have an all stock 1989 Crx Si with a huge amount of new parts with less than 5,000 miles on them. Most receipts as well. Run's and drives great. The AC needs hooked back up and charged/converted. There was about $3850 invested, including the car. I hate to get rid of it but I'm looking for a Subaru. It would go well with your red hatch.

Mazda 323 - cheap, easy to work on, great winter car and you'll probably have at least $1,000 left over to buy something else.

How did THAT come up in this thread?

It is NOT a 4 cyl, it is NOT easy to find parts, it is NOT good on gas, it is probably NOT in his price range, and it is definitely NOT slow. Easy car to get into trouble with.

My son lost his license doing 94 in a 55 in mine (without knowing it).

But, if you insist, I've got a sweet 5 spd SVX I'll sell- and throw in a parts car!
