I have a V8 which is "bolt in compatible" with the Ford 302. It only weighs 300 pounds and displaces about 5.7L. I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm sick of Mustangs. I want to end up with a car that can stop and turn. I also live in California. This means that any car I put it into must be made before 1976. I've thought of 911s. A GT40 replica would be awesome, but more than I want to spend. Not sure if I want to go through the SB100 nonsense and build a kit car. Any ideas?
Model a pickup on exocet chassis?
Pinto or Maverick would be an interesting destination.
Sunbeam Tiger?
A Factory Five Cobra Daytona kit would be a no-brainer except for the disdain for the SB100 and Kit car stuff.
DeTomaso Pantera?

I was going to say Maverick, or it's Mercury cousin, Comet.
I enjoyed my '70 Torino as fast cruiser more than my '70 'stang. It was no canyon racer, but it was fun to Hoon around in, and ate highway miles comfortably. A big engine with torque would have only made it better.
How about a mustang II? Most mustang purists don't consider it a mustang
Obviously Pantera is a wonderful idea, but if a GT40 replica is out due to cost I have a feeling that the Pantera would be as well.
Put it in an old Celica? How about a Volvo 142/144/145?
MGB? Or other LBC?
Mostly it seems like it should be something small/light enough to really take advantage of the engine's weight, or lack thereof.
T bucket if you can find one someone already registered.
Cougar. I had a '69 XR-7, a friend had a later convertible.
California's a big place! How about the 1959 Anglia behind it?
Embrace your inner mustang.....how about a pre 76 mustang II fast back with handling goodies?
Merkur.
Great chassis, and the 5.0l swap has been done many times.
That will hold the engine well until you can afford the Pantera or GT40 or Cobra kit you want.
I'm stuck on trying to figure out what engine is around that size, weighs that little, and shares bellhousing pattern with a 6-bolt Ford 90 Degree.
BTW - There is a company that is almost done tooling up for making aluminum Cleveland blocks. The casting/machining process proofs look very promising.

So, just what is this mystery engine?

It sounds like an aluminum block Windsor to me.
Ford Capri or an XR4Ti both stick out to me as options.
