2016 Tacoma extended cab. When the 04 RX8 that was my dd started to need $$ thrown at it SWMBO said it is getting replaced with a truck. We have a 1 acre yard and she likes gardening and hates to pay delivery for anything we buy. Couldn't argue since I still have my 99 Miata autocross toy/fun car and my restored 1970 Opel GT. The Tacoma gets better mpg's than the RX8 anyway, even with the V6 and tow package. Averaging 23 mpg with the Tacoma. She drives a 2010 Sonata that will most likely be replaced with something this winter.

It really excels in the role as a daily. I can be a little heavy on the throttle so I'm only getting around 43.5 mpg average but can still nearly get two weeks out of ten dollars. Plus it's a hell of a lot more engaging than any car.

During the nice seasons I ride my KTM 1190R.  Whole lotta fun, which is why I'm lucky to get 38mpg with it.  Otherwise I have a '08 Lexus GX470.

Its quiet, relatively quick and has a decent stereo. Stock except for a Supersprint exhaust and euro manifolds/catalytics.

2011 WRX hatch.  It's a great do-everything car between hauling my twins to daycare everyday, autocross, grocery shopping, road trips, and general automotive shenannigans.  It is completely stock other than the toddler seats and sunshades installed in the back.

What I like:

  • Boost. It is fun.
  • Factory suspension matches my idea of a balance between handling and comfort. It'll handle Atlanta's terrible streets well enough and is competent on-course. I'm not seeing the understeer at autox that I heard they have stock.
  • AWD. I know I don't need it (especially in GA), but it sure does feel good in wet or dry. Confident handling is an understatement.
  • 4-door hatch is useful.
  • The factory Recaros are awesome.  I'm super comfortable driving for hours as long as there isn't too much stop-n-go traffic (see below).

What I don't:

  • Clutch is on the heavy side so that can wear on you if you're stuck in traffic for hours.
  • Fuel mileage is of course not great, plus premium.  I consider it simply the price of driving a boost buggy everyday.
  • The interior design is decent to look at, but it's pretty plastic fantastic and prone to rattles for a car it's age. The sound of the turbo getting into boost tends to drown them out.

DD:  2016 ram 3500 4x4 cummins diesel.  You caught me on the off day where I don’t have a trailer hooked up because I’m working in an old neighborhood with smaller driveways.  It’s my tow beast, kid hauler, office and parts chaser all rolled into one massive vehicle

My crusty old van is comfy, reliable, and the stereo still sounds ok. I don’t need more than that.

It’s been a great winter commuter and dog hauler but I’m kind of trying to sell it because I just brought home a big GM B body wagon.

2000 Camry.  Yep, it's tan.  Without a doubt, it's the most boring car I've ever owned.  The seating position is awful (or maybe my arms are too short), but the seat itself isn't bad.  AC is ice cold.  I bought it four years ago when an older woman lightly wrecked it and tore the front bumper off, so it was cheap.  I've put 85,000 miles on it without any problems.  Just gas, oil, tires, and a set of brake pads.

Wife drives a 2004 Honda Pilot.  Also boring, but she needed something with third row seating and decent ground clearance.  She didn't want a full size SUV, so the pilot was an easy choice.

Todays DD (if that is possible) is my sons 2005 Jetta GLi.  It has a bigger turbo a FMIC and a tune to make it work.  It has some rough edges, as any 13 year old car would.  But it is a blast to drive.  My normal DD is a quite forgettable 1998 1.6 Sentra with an auto trans.  And that reminds me that I need to get my 1997 Jetta GT back on the road.  Needs a set of tires and an AC compressor.  And add a turbo.  Especially add a turbo. *sigh*

Lately I've been dailying my sister's '97 GT Mustang convertible because she doesn't drive and none of my vehicles are driveable. Strongly considering buying it if my GTA sells soon because I think it does what I want the GTA to do better with less work. Working ac, has been reliable as gravity.

My daily is a '96 Dodge 1500 extended cab 2wd. I picked it because I like 2wd v8 trucks and it was cheap. I found out why when the 313k mile trans exploded and the I noticed the 318 had a cracked block. So the daily is a project now and my project goes a bit longer without being touched.

I too have a Fiesta ST. Mine’s a ‘15 with almost 90k on it now. It’s probably the most fun dd I’ve had. It gets 32 mpg, and has been dead reliable from day 1. I’ve had the Mountune MP215 kit on it since it was a week old.

This:

Great gas mileage, cheap consumables, with a 5 speed, it's reasonably fun while almost incapable of breaking the speed limit.  The only hitch is surprisingly high insurance rates.  Either they are death traps (possible) or other Yaris drivers are idiots.

My daily, 2017 FoST. Fun, practical, and affordable. I'm reaching the age where I wanted a daily that I could just drive and not worry about.
