What engine swap for a BMW 2002?

The CIS 320 motor makes for an easy swap. Working on carbs is a lost art. Most mechanics don't know how to work on them these days.

I think a nissan sr20 swap would be nice. They can power a rwd car and are dirt cheap as well...

Very true. I'll take easy cold starts with FI any day. That said When I ditch the Weber on the Volvo its getting dual SUs. They just look too damn sexy.

I like carbs because hitting them with a hammer is a legitimate repair technique. But that's about as far as my love affair goes...

carbs sound and look nice... but I do not miss working on them

While on the subject of hybrid swaps, a 4AGE might be interesting/easier and cheaper than some. Really though, I vote for hopping up the 320i engine.

S14 is way out of the budget. So, too would be a supercharged 1.9L. Those were my cost-no-object day dreams (see initial post).

At this point, I think I'm going to install the 1.8L from the 320i and make Baby Jesus cry by bolting up a pair of side draft Webers.

Oh pairs of sidedrafts are OK. I was talking about the godawful Pinto carb conversions out there.

More on that s2000 engined car please!! I've got one of those motors and trying to decide whether to put it in a 2002 or a Mk1 Cortina.

Anyway, engine and chassis were both axis powers, so it is excusable.

There's an S2000-engined Mk1 Escort running in the Targa Newfoundland this year, driven by Kevin "Crash" Corrigan and navigated by Shawn Keenan.

This has nothing to do with 2002s, but it's an excuse to post a picture of a yummy car.

I thought the DASC was back in production? I knew they stopped production when they had trouble sourcing the supercharger itself

That looks like a 1600, not a 2002.

What about a bridgeported 12A with Weber 51's? 250hp @ 9K rpm would be fun.

Could be a 1600 or an early 2002. Early grills and bumper mounting holes, Euro turn signals, but late rectangular mirrors. And no front seats, apparently.
