I know this is a thread jack, and I apologize, but can one of the rallyers out there tell me why the lower two extra lights on the Escort are aimed inwards? Wouldn't that create an expanding triangle of darkness (or less light) with its apex pointing at the driver? If you want side-of-the-road or around-the-corner light, wouldn't you aim the lights out, not in?
When you aim them out, they only illuminate the sides of the road. When you aim them cross-eyed, the beams illuminate the center of the road and the sides.
Yay - RWD rally cars. Back in the day we used to joke about needing to add lights protruding from the doors for sideways visibility on gravel events.
Way back when, John Buffum ran a Mk. 1 Escort. For quite a while you could buy T-shirts with an image of the car on its roof and an appropriate caption (OH, S___). He also stuffed it once on the Press On Regardless and broke off the steering wheel. He finished the stage and made it to service steering with a set of Vice-Grips. Hence his early nickname of "Stuffum Buffum". Magic to watch on a gravel stage!
In reply to M030: Hi guys, new to the site...ive been doing research on the web the past few days and came across this post. i have a 69 2002 that a friend of mine is doing the e21 swap for me. its almost done, i just have a few questions on the wiring. i have a decent wiring harness from a 73 02 and was wondering if anyone has info or diagrams on how this swap is done. as of now, i have the e21 motor 73 02 tranny setup and 73 wiring harness...any tips or comments would be appreciated.
If you're keeping the E21 injection setup the harnesses are very different, plus you'll need to install the fusebox from the E21. Either source an E21 harness or get a good wiring diagram for the E21 and start fabricating. All the necessary connectors should still be available. Personally, I'd rip the injection off and carb it, but that's just me.
In reply to 02Pilot: thanks for the quick reply, right now, i have a carb setup, ill get the model of the carb and a picture of what it looks like currently if that helps. by keeping the carb, will it work with the 73 harness?

hi i have a 75 bmw 2002 that is a hell of a lot of fun. i am currently looking to see what i can swap my engine with and tranny to put a lot more horsepower and torque in my car. i like to go fast especially in this car the speedomter goes to 120. i wud like to see my car hit 100 at least with no problems. any preferences to what engine would be the best???
A well-tuned M10 with only minor modifications (ditch the Solex for a Weber 32/36 at least) should not have any problem hitting 100 in an 02. A 75 will have a bunch of emissions stuff slowing it down, but that's easily solved.
Your car should be happy at 100 mph in stock form. The revs will be up there, but it should do it. Won't get to that speed all that quickly, but it should be able to get there.
