I think the F40 can be made to work.

There was a quad 4 powered CRX at the challenge years ago. I don't recall it's performance being very impressive.

Isn't there some decent method to addapting an F2T to the E153 trans in the car?

Yep, the Aussies figured it out. Slight pain in the MX6, but that's due to figuring out axles and moving from shift rods to cables.

None of which would be an issue in an MR2. Same thing, just figure out one mount.

Out of all of the motors mentioned, I only have experience with the F2T, but unless there's a much higher redline with the V6's mentioned that actually fit the car, I would think the easy route to, say, 325hp/400lb-ft of torque would be an F2T. Basically a turbo and ECU swap.

I say that, knowing I'm not actually doing this, so what do I know.

The catch is that you'd want to swap to an E153 transmission in the first place, which is the transmission that comes in the turbo models. So you'd need axles, mounts, all that noise along with the transmission.

Then buy the adapter plate for F2T to E-series trans. Then source an F2T.

I don't know that it'd be that much cheaper in the end than a 3sgte swap, which will bolt to the non-turbo S53/S54 transmission in the MR2.

I'd love to see someone do it, though. If nothing else, it'll be hilarious to watch someone drive it.

Bumping this back up. Jeff picked up a 1999 Camry parts car with a 1MZ-FE engine and E153 manual transmission. What are some common performance upgrades for this engine and can the factory computer be tuned?

Get a a 3vz-fe fuel rail so you have a fuel return line. You can cam or supercharge the engine. Check for sludging issues.
