I tried a 3:1 mix of water to Purple Power and I just didn't like it.  It definitely removed the dirt and oils, but it also seems to strip the zinc coating off of Grade 8 bolts and carburetor shafts.  It also left a kind of scale on the materials I put in it.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for this?

3:1 is way stronger than I have ever used. I use less than a quarter cup of alkali degreaser to a 2.5 liter . Like just a splash really. Closer to 30:1.

That amount with the heat on will degrease whatever I have needed and clean up the nastiest of carburetors.

I did that based on what I thought I read in Cousin Eddie's motorcycle thread.  Maybe I got the concentration wrong.  I'll review that.

Someone told me simple green because surfactant.  Don't own an ultrasonic cleaner myself.

I've used simple green and mean green in my ultrasonic cleaner both work really well at taking the dirt and grease off. I haven't seen any surface coatings removed from any of my parts.  I mixed 2:1 water and degreaser, I also use the same ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning resin prints so I like it to be a little stronger.

I use Simple Green 3:1 with water - seems to work fairly well.

Gasoline works great. "But you can't put that in an ultrasonic cleaner!" you shriek. Well, you may be able to use this clever hack.

I use this stuff on carbs.

I use this stuff on clock movements and anything that is delicate.

1:10 simple green concentrate at the office. Though we have one hell of a sonicator to clean things.

In reply to Toyman01 (Moderately Supportive Dude) :

I've thought about using a bucket of carb cleaner.  Do you just pour it in or do you use the trick above of putting another fluid in as the intermediary?

I always use the purple simple green you can get from Home D in something like 50/50 with distilled water (that's key). What's also key is heat—I let my little HF unit get as hot as it can before submerging parts.

In reply to Mr_Asa :

I just dump it in the machine straight.

These are before and after, no scrubbing required.
