God watches over fools because they can be so entertaining!

I learned that my underhood fuel smell was caused by the fuel pressure regulator. Which was leaking through the vacuum hose. Which blew off after being fuel saturated. Which meant that I have been running 13 pounds of boost at base fuel pressure for an undetermined length of time.

I also learned that Weber made the regulator for Volvo. I also learned that Volvo wants as much for that cubic inch of stamped sheetmetal and rubber as Weber gets for an entire 45 DCOE carburetor.

I learned that my neighbor's chickens escaped their coop on Friday. I learned that their gigantic Rhode Island Red rooster loves my front porch. I learned that roosters don't only crow in the morning - they crow whenever they want to, including at 2:35 this morning. I learned that despite two visits and two phone calls, my neighbors aren't really interested in retrieving their Berkley-ing rooster. I learned that a rooster who hasn't been fed in two days will still crap all over everything.

I learned why the chicken crossed the road: To escape my efforts to capture it and return it to its home. It's back on its owner's property, so good enough.

Oh, I also learned that it takes a power washer to get rooster poop off of my front porch.

How was your weekend?

Targa Miata?

Yup. Time for some reinforcement. Looks like the braking forces are too much for the V8Roadsters subframe. At least the steering rack stayed attached to this one.

I also confirmed a suspicion about ND Miata headlights, but I won't be sharing that one until we have the product together.

You're converting them to pop-ups!

I learned that I have an awful lot of crap in my garage that the movers won't move.

Today I learned, when you are stuck and ask a question, some times, you get unstuck before others can answer, like 30 seconds after asking.

I also learned that the main harness from a 95 subaru legacy, weighs 14 lbs.

Last bit to be removed is from the under hood fuse box to the inside fuse box, then back to getting the engine out, which should be a piece of cake after all this.

A lot of times, just formulating the question leads me to the answer. Probably because your minds deals with questions differently than it deals with problems or solutions.

I learned that, contrary to Wikipedia, an RX-7 and a Quantum Syncro have a combined length longer than 30'.

I also learned that, by removal of the VW's bumper skins with the patent-pending "grab with two fists and yank" method, the VW can underride the RX-7's bumper and both cars will fit in a 30' long garage.

I learned that a customer is less than amused when you have to tell them that their 2016 GMC Acadia's 3.6L gargled a valve head for reasons unknown and now requires an engine with less than 900 miles on the odometer.

I also further learned why I hate the GM 3.6L VVT.

From the customer's perspective, 900mi from new is better than 900mi out of warranty.

Also I love 3.6s. There are a lot of them out there and they need expensive repair while the car is still valuable. Cynical, I know, but nobody fixes Audis anymore.

I agree with the mileage thing as well, but it still has to be a bit... disheartening, I guess, when you've had the car less than a month and it already needs an engine and no one knows why it did what it did.

Oh, I agree that it isn't very heartening, but being told "...and it will be covered under warranty, will you be needing a loaner?" can be most helpful.
