Last night I was surfing CL for Rat Rod candidates. Not that I'd actually BUY one, but it's fun to see what's out there. So as I'm looking at '52 DeSotos and '48 Chrysler Imperial carcasses rusting away in Missouri fields the thought hits me about the article in the current (?) Hot Rod magazine about where NASCAR went wrong. I suddenly have an epiphany--a mental image of the Barn Find 500 at Daytona! Count 'em, 43 vintage barn finds sitting on the grid, steelies and patinas mostly intact. All of 'em actually look like CARS, with little aluminum discs over the headlight rings and pins on the hoods and dual exhausts poking out from under the side. No aero crap on them, just big numbers and sponsors like "Joe's Plumbing" hand-painted on the fenders...
Dunno if it's just me, but it was a hell of an appealing thought. Not that it'd ever happen, but I thought it would be fun.
I kinda had the same idea. In the thread where everyone was daydreaming about the big lottery win I mentioned I would build a track that was a big oval with road course infield then have a GRM event there.
I would love to see some stock car races where the cars looked like cars. Round these parts if a dirt or short track car looks like a factory car it is new to the circuit and it wont last long in that shape.
Hood pins are the top of the slippery slope to hell, If you feel the need you can ran a used bungee cord from the bumper to the hood ornament or a coat hook provided the coat hook was stolen for an old building.

OK that that thing is cool...Is it wrong I have been thinking of rebuilding one of the 3 Oldsmobiles for running in hobby stock?
Why did you have to do that?
Now I'm looking at stuff like this and wanting to build one.
Zomby now take those cars and make them capable to run ovals or a road course...
I like how one of their rules states you can build the car off a later frame however along with things like the Winston, Nextel, and sprint Cup chasis the GM G body metric chasis is outlawed.

I don't think I'm cool enough to have looked at a picture of that.

Wouldn't race it. I'd build a shrine around it
What you just described is the v8 late model races I go to at Star Speedway in NH just that the cars are from the 70's and 80's. I remember one guy with a 80's something cutlass that was in all red oxide primer and all his letting and sponsors were written on the car with chalk, magic marker and a small paint brush. He missed qualifying and started from the back. He ended up winning the 20 lap race.
