Maybe I hang out here to much , but I can't believe what people expect to get for 10 year old cars with blown motors or transmissions on NASIOC!!!
I just had a guy offer me on 04 WRX with a blown motor for $4500. I couldn't get $4500 for mine and it runs!
If you perpetuate your twisted fantasy reality and convince enough people of its merits, soon it becomes actual reality.
no rust 2k? around here blown up wrx's go in the 1200-2000 range.

That is the range I expect too. Just flippin crazy. Well I have lots of time to look since its -30 degrees C here and I am NOT working in the garage.
Some people will pay ludicrous money for some things, get enough of them and it effects the price of that thing. Check out what an early Porsche 356 shell can go for http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-356-Speedster-Yard-Find-1957-Porsche-Speedster-/281211028141?forcerrptr=true&hash=item41797bc2ad&item=281211028141&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

30C = 86F.
Where the heck are you? It was -6F here this morning...
(and I'm not working in the garage either!)
edit: oh wait. I didn't see the minus sign. That's -22F. I don't think my brain would be working at that temp...

I am in North Bay, ON Canada - BTW - this morning it was officially -38C (-36F for you southern neighbours). My rear-view mirror fell off the windshield and my car tried to move with the transmission in neutral, when I let out the clutch (I am assuming that the input shaft spinning in the cold gear oil actually tried to move the output shaft!!!).
Miata shell or GT 250 shell?

Stay warm Dave, we were a balmy -23C in Toronto this morning. I had to play step on the brake, wiggle the AT shift lever on the SAAB this morning for a few minutes. It doesn't like to come out of park when it's this cold and been sitting overnight.
If it can drift, it is worth a bagillion dolllarrrzzz!
I paid 1500 for my 02 wrx with a blown motor, 150,000 miles straight and clean body and nice interior.
You're in Canada though. Cars are more expensive here for the most part (unless you talk about scrap price which is lower). Western Canada is even worse.

A scrap yard gave me $100 for a SHO with no drivetrain or suspension. And they picked it up.
a complete car with a blown motor is worth more than a "shell" with no drivetrain in it..
