I'm reading through threads full of hate for this or that, SUVs, modern cars, EV, parking assist. We are starting to sound like elitist shiny happy people who think what we like is the only way and everyone else should fall in berkeleying line. Cars are cars, love them all.
Another thing; when someone posts something the next post doesn't need to be full of over-explaining. We are all pretty bright folks.
I think a lot of us are stressed by current circumstances, but I agree, some recent posts seem to be less of a broad church than this forum normally is. Especially keeping mind that this forum probably covers both a bigger age range and bigger income range than a lot of other car forums.
Re the pretty bright, I may have to disagree based on what I'm about to bid on on BaT .
I, as a responsible party, apologize.
Here's an image of a double rainbow to offer as an olive branch.

It's been increasing over the years. More judgmental of other people vehicular choices and purchases. As if being here makes you more of an expert on what other people should do with their money and cars. Then there's folks who hate anything new that's different and more advanced than their/our E36 M3boxes.
It's interesting because I'm a huge offender of some of these folks dislikes. I have a giant SUV that I don't need. And I love modern cars and all the tech in them. I'd love an EV. But, I guess my POS projects in addition to my offensive purchases keeps me in the good graces of the GRM-elite.
I'm on y'all lawn lol
Please nobody take this politically as it is not the intent. But I would absolutely love to have localized and high-speed rail that would enable me to commute to work without ever having to drive and to have vehicles for pleasure and unwinding and for procuring large things to bring home. So pretty much one would be strictly for utility and one would be strictly for fun. But I would love to not have to have a "daily".
And most vehicles that are sold are appliances and are "dailies" The average person doesn't want something fun or exciting for that they want something reliable cheap to maintain and that may hold its value when they're done with it or when the choose to pass it down to someone else. Things of that nature are never going to fit the niche market of those who are passionate about whatever the product is. Knives are an excellent example of this... Most people have serrated steak knives, which actually tear the meat instead of more effectively cutting through it as a non serrated blade would be. But a nonserated blade requires more frequent sharpening to stay sharp enough to get through the meat without tearing it itself. You could use ceramic as the blade material, instead of steel, but then special care and handling is required or else the blade will chip and break.
It is easier to hate than to like. One Love.
I am an offender. You have my apologies chandler.
My pet peeve for project forums is:
"I am going to put X engine in my project."
"No, don't do that. You should do Y engine for it."
My response is to turn the other cheek and not respond. Yet in my head i'm all: "build your own berkeleying project with a Y engine in it, this one is mine to berkeley up or win."
I was hoping we were talking about an awesome 70s TV show with a perfect theme song.
I E36 M3 on Harleys. The bar hopping dentists and lawyers will always jump up and down pitching a fit. The real fans of Harley Davidson will never hear me, because they out there hauling ass down the highway. I will make vast generalizations, but I will never single out a person for what they ride.

1. there is a difference between preferences and hate. Modern cars and EVs are not a preference of mine.
2. So you are saying - we should fall into the line you prefer and love all cars.
Love what you love. Let others love what they love. There is enough room.
In reply to chandler :
I personally hate driving assist nannies. Doesn't mean that I hate people that want those on their own vehicle, just means that I don't want to buy one equipped with it. I don't particularly care for Subaru products, but I don't care if someone else loves them. We can hate cars that we think are terrible, as long as we don't hate people that disagree with us.
Also, people that love a brand, platform, or model excessively can be just as bad as one that hates a particular brand, platform, or model. I really like early 90's GMs, but if I replied to every "What Car?" thread with " 1990 Buick Century with 3300 V6 FTW", that would be about as helpful and annoying as replying to each with "I hate that POS that you are considering".

What!?
I race one car with a leaf spring rear suspension and the other one uses a weed wacker motor with rubber donuts for suspension.
Further I make financially irresponsible decisions based on their making financial sense.
As for the over explaining; my job title does have the word analyst in it.
It’s Stefan’s fault. He’s angry at everyone, apparently.
Meh. This forum is way more civil than it used to be.
I've had a bit to mull over this. My rainbow response was snarky, and for that, I apologize sincerely.
My response came from a place of frustration, because I have largely clammed up in recent days. I don't feel able to express an opinion without angering someone. I left Facebook. I type many comments on this very forum, and if they seem e36m3y on a re-read, I delete them. I thought it was safe to have a mild bitch about my boss's stupid Benz (honestly, I'm more annoyed by the job than the car).
I try very hard to not offend people, but being human, sometimes do.
Chandler, my response, if worded better goes a bit more like this: I hate that my post wore on you. This was never my intention. I am horrified that what was meant to be a light hearted steam release makes you feel negatively.
I propose that we all dial back the indignation, and try to take things less seriously (yes, this is self directed, too). There are plenty of real problems to be upset about, and cars are way down there on the list. I have nothing but love for all you folks. Please come over and hang out on my lawn any time.
Note: For once, there is not a sarcastic word in the above comment. Seriously, be well, people.

I think if it wasn't your bosses car you would've enjoyed it more lol
I agree. I hate all the GRM'ers that hate things. One Love.

So do you hate them as a group? You said "all" so if it's only 50% of the group hating things then you're OK? Additionally you said "things" which implies you're OK with the ones that hate people.
Note I hate people that go off on snarky tangents; becuase apparently I feel like that's my job.
So on a serious note I actually find this forum much better than most.
This forum is great. There is rarely real beef and that's one of the reasons it's so great. One thing I find today is everyone is carrying a little more than normal. When anyone is stressed it's easy to get bent out of shape and it's easy to throw shade. I have been trying hard to give people grace lately, myself included.
Peace and Love to my fellow GRM'rs and to everyone doing the best they can.
What about a certain unmentionable store in Georgia?
This has been fun, I understand not everyone likes everything but it seems we try to reason out a reason why that thing is bad for everyone. As the old lady says: "that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works!"
Also, I would have just continued ignoring all this but into my third week of corona and pneumonia and not much to do but read the internet which is never prescribed for ANYONE. Y'all are still the best bunch on the web.
There is a difference between saying "I hate EVs or I'll never drive an EV." I don't see a problem with that.
Saying "You're an idiot because you love EVs." Is not OK.
But saying "Coal rollers suck" is totally cool because there is no rational argument in their favor.
The End

As GRM's official , card carrying, certified, Geezer. I hereby tell everybody to get off my lawn . However you are allowed to like or dislike any car you wish. However, cars with Hand cranks, wire wheels, and a proper set of points are exempt from any bodies ability to dislike.
And Six in a row is the way to go! While V12's are the ultimate engine. But I get a charge out of EV's. But a Flathead is cool, unless it's a straight 8 which is really great. Then there are 4 cylinders like Offy's and most British 4 cylinders.
In reply to wheelsmithy (Joe-with-an-L) :
You are allowed to hate your boss( that's why he gets the big bucks). You gripe with technology is allowed because us Geezers have authorized it. And your thoughtful comment just posted above makes you officially one of us.
