Dad drove, each kid had their own bench, we were allowed to lay down and sleep. Most comfortable road trips EVER!

The seat in my 1986 Honda CRX was the best. Now I am kicking myself for selling that car. Damn it.
The worst was the stock seat that came in my '97 Ranger. I could not sit in it without it instantly pinching a nerve in my back and sending shooting pain down my right leg. I bought some Cobra seats as replacements.
Side bar: I used to travel a lot and used lot of rental cars, late '90's. For whatever reason every Ford I got into caused the same pinch nerve problem. No other car's seats did it. I avoided Fords when I rented.
I have fractured vertebrae that make it quite painfull to drive long distances. I also rent a lot of cars. The best rental to date has been the Hyundai Sonata. But it's not as good as my Landrover lR3. Easily the best seats I have ever sat in. The only vehicle where I do not have to stop after 45 minutes to sort my back and legs out.
The seats in my Intrepid R/T were like Lazy-Boys for the road. No lateral support, but man they could eat up the miles. (can't find pics of the R/t, but they were basically the same)
1989 Chrysler LeBaron coupe with cloth seats (I don't particularly like leather, and especially not vinyl). The shape just happened to be right for me for all-day drives cross country.
In reply to bobzilla : Leather. I don’t believe the Phaeton came with a cloth seat.
If we are listing worst seats there are some real doozies out there. NA Miata seats suck, mid 90’s Ranger seats suck, 20XX Lincoln Town Car seats were pure garbage.
2011 Accord Crosstour EX-L leather is pretty good.
2014 Chevy Sonic RS leather is the most surprising I've been in for a decently long time. I expected much worse.
Volvo 140 series with cloth upholstery. Better than anything Volvo has done since, and that is a tall ask. I wish I had a good set to retrofit into my 245.
Volvo, nothing else I've ever driven even compares. A V70, a newer XC90, they both had fantastic seats.
+1000 on the Volvo love. Even the back seat in my mom's sky blue 240 --with crushed velour upholstery-- were in hindsight shockingly comfortable. The front seats in SWMBO's '03 XC70 were one of the reasons it is in my top 5 favorite cars ever.
Square bolster sport seats out of a 2003 GTI. I drove from Florida to Pennsylvania solo in 21 hours in those seats with no issue.
More Volvo- XC70 seats were great
I haven't put a bunch of miles in them, but I always loved the feel of Honda del Sol seats.
Won't fall into the cheap seats option, but the Tesla Model 3 seats are amazingly fantastic
There is so much more to the comfort equation than just the seat.
That said, my favorite was my Z32 seats - manual cloth
2010 Audi S4 with alcantara and leather - best seats ever - have a 2 hr road trip tomorrow and can't wait
My Volvo 740 were some of the best I've experienced. Lexus LS seats were good for the limited time I spent in them. C5 Z06 too.
I second the '88-'92 Mazda 626. The ones in my 4 door hatch were terrific.
I actually really like the seats in my NA Miata. It's a '95 M so the seats are a bit different, but I think they are very comfortable.
1st gen turbo DSM's had good seats, the cloth ones at least.
By far the worst are the ones in my '15 Chevy Malibu company car. I have to recline the seat way more than normal to avoid a sore back even on short drives. No other seat ever bothered my back.
For a long time, I thought the seats in my old ‘85 Maserati Biturbo were the most comfortable seats I ever had in a car. I loved the soft leather and the way I’d just sink into them like a gentle Italian embrace.
car39 said:Volvo. Hands down, the best.
I can attest to that. my 96 Volvo 850 had the most comfortable seats ever
Best I've sat in are the 7G Celica manual cloth seats...no lumbar adjustment, but comfy. Nice side bolsters but not too skinny so my not so skinny body fits. Red & black one is stock, bright red one has been reupholstered...
TR7 and TR8 seats are great, plus they are about the lowest seat/slider combo you will ever find. Great things if your a tall guy that likes sports cars. The seats in my TVR 280i combined with the seating position were actually too comfy. Fell asleep driving that car twice. Have to disagree with Nick on the 320is seats. Too narrow at the shoulders for me and didn't allow me to snug into the back. Dodge Neon seats were the absolute worst. The Kirkey race seat I replaced them with was more comfy than those things.
