I think the 370Z Nismo is a serious contender.

Also this: 370Z Roadster Touring Sport 6MT $48,100 USD

Any others? That roadster trim has me in a mindset that there are no contenders lol

Full-size trucks - they have the highest margins and are the most profitable units produced.

My first thought was the GM Full-size SUVs

Escalade. You can easily spend 100k on one. It's a tarted up 1/2 ton truck. A regular cab long box truck starts at $27.5k. The Suburban at $50k. Escalade at $73k.

the Nissan Versa Note SL.

I'm serious, you mean to tell me that a Fiesta ST with the R&D and production cost of a DI turbo 4 pot, recaros and performance oriented suspension is less then $1500 more then your "SL" trim which includes 16 inch alloy wheels (outdone by the fiesta st) fog lights, intelligent key, around view monitor, Nissan connect mobile app and heated front seats (non recaro) and CVT. And don't get me started on the Sentra...

$72,000 - $92,000 for a tarted up Tahoe!!

Are you talking strictly new vehicles? I have little knowledge on new vehicle pricing. After a quick look, the Tahoe seems overpriced compared to the Silverado and the F-150 priced relative to the Explorer.

None of these cars are overpriced. Not as long as sufficient people are buying them.

Lexus ES300h can be loaded up to an MSRP of close to $50,000 for what is basically a tarted up Camry

Can't agree with this. Our M235i has an MSRP of about $44K. Sure that isn't peanuts, but it's a pretty darn good value for what the car delivers.

Now I know you can option up a new Boxster into seven figures.....that seems a bit much.

BMW M5

It's a 5 series, with a base price of $93k before options. With paint and leather it's at $102k. That is a whopping $43k over the base 528i... That is an entire 500HP Mustang difference. Madness.

Try looking at UK MSRP on cars. You guys will all die of aneurysms. I just priced up a VW Beetle Cabrio Sport. OK I was heavy with the options, but I got it up to £37,639 ($55,389.55 USD) without too much effort. Actually that's pretty good as the $ is very stong right now. 18 months ago that would have been over $60K easily

"Top of the Line" Jeep Wranglers

If it's covered in mud, I might have a glimmer of recognition as to what it's about.....

But they cost how much? Over $30k!?

You paid what to have cages around the harbor freight boat-trailer taillights?

It's a Fiat thing, they are right, I don't understand.

The MSRP for the S65 AMG Coupe starts at $111,000 more than the S550 Coupe it's based on. That's almost enough to buy an Audi R8.

Porsche products seem OK price wise until you reach the options page, then common sense goes right out the window.

P.S. Just checked UK Miata pricing. The new ND with the base 1.5L Engine will start at around $33K there.

I feel like that's hem laughing at people who add options, and weight, to cars that were engineered with motorsport in mind.

In reply to drummerfromdefleopard:

Just as a data point that really reinforces this concept:

You can build a base Boxster that costs 130k, just through some "creative" optioning. That's getting pretty close to tripling the base price.

Does that include the "bring us a paint chip and a fabric swatch and we'll paint it and upholster the interior any way you like" options?
