I know it is over priced but I am offering to trade my MR2 for it and looking to build a family sized sports car (read V8 swap) and this seems like a decent based. I did tell him I needed cash on his end but didnt say how much.

$2500-3000

Bonus points for 5-speed sedan.

I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt at $3200 - chicago rusty versions run 1000-1500. $5k is running into scruffy m3 territory

3K or less, depending on the issues. It doesn't appear to have the Sport package (with the seats that have the lower seat bolster that extends). You'll definitely want to check out exactly what it needs and what's been done recently. The cooling system is a known wear item on the E36, you'll want to replace the radiator and the water pump if they haven't been done recently. By that time, every suspension bushing should have been reached, or will likely need to be replaced in the near future.

I vote 2500-3500. My guess is that in wear seen in person, plus those "just a few little things" and 170k with no service records (clutch, cooling, bushings), will bring it down to the 2500 end of the scale.

That ad is wrong, that car does not have the sport package. Wrong seats, sits too high and has E46 wheels. $2200 overpriced, IMO. I only paid a little more than that for my E46!

I knew this guy was WAY overpriced but I liked the car. Thanks for the pointers.

There are so many of these out there and they are at the bottom of the curve right now. Some travel and hard shopping can net you a nice one with less miles for $2k - $2.5k so don't even bother with that one at that price.

I just committed to buy a rust free one with full coilovers, M3 brakes, ltw flywheel, super sprint exhaust, fresh delrin, and all aluminum radiator and nice wheels for $3k cash (bent valves though so... I need to drop a head on it or toss one of the motors I have here in it). I only paid that much because it is literally a 5 minute drive to go get it with the trailer so no fuel or shipping cost to me.

standard Coupe's and Sedans are pretty cheap. Even the M3s are low on their value right now.

It is the semi-trailing arm cars that are hard to get. The 318ti and the Z3s

Nah - he might just be a victim of a depreciation curve that dropped out from under him. If the car is local and really nice you can give him your number and tell him to call you if he can't move it for more than $xxxx.

I've heard that works sometimes but never for me.

Yeah, that is one of Clem's favorites. He is local.

Yeah, I got a '95 M3 for $5500 in very good condition with 150k miles. Granted, it's no sedan, but still, that just isn't a $5k car. Another I looked at was an E36 325 sedan with S50 (M3 engine) and supercharger for $5500.
