I want that.

I would leave it looking stock from the outside, place it on a Miata front and rear suspension with a turbo 1.8L BP and a Miata transmission. Steel wheels with dog dishes and rings hiding R compounds. A couple of retro covers made up for form fitting buckets and a full back seat with proper harnesses.

What about Miata front suspension then an Escort GT drivetrain at the rear - then it would still be rear engined.

Those were the cats meow back in the day. Handled and went like stink to hear my stepdad talk about them. But then he liked the R16 also.

1960 Dauphine was my 1st car. I shared it with my mother. The girls thought it was cute. The guys thought having 3 on the floor was cool. It was even less dependable than the Rover 2000TC I had later. It stranded me a couple of times & when it stranded my mother,Dad said it had to go. Seem the Dauphine had a phenolic clutch (which had nothing to do with the strandings). I saw a decent looking one with NC tags in Roxboro NC while on the way to VIR a couple of years ago. It brought back not particularly fond memories.

Wasn't the Dauphine the one with the bar in the toolkit? IIRC, you had to open the door on the side with the flat tire, and put the bar into the space to keep the thing from bending while you jacked it off the ground.

The only thing I remember about the Dauphine was swing axle terminal oversteer.

Didn't they burn valves?

A friend had one in high school in the late 60s. Very slow. Tragically, he was killed in a car wreck at the intersection from hell on the way to the beach.

A year ago I found the remnants of one deep in the wooded floodplain that was an old textile dump. I even put a picture of it in the report.
