Ok, I have issues. Of course, you already knew that because I read this magazine and frequent its website.... Anyway, I have discovered a pretty solid Mustang II near me for the paltry sum of $400. It runs, but does not have functioning brakes. It is a factory V8 fastback and has the C4 auto trans. It needs cosmetics too, of course.
Why is it speaking to me!!??!! I have delusions of a budget track car/pro-touring machine. I am thinking of dropping in a 5.0 and T5 combo, then doing suspension and brake upgrades. Help me!
Ok, don't help me, actually. I was wondering if any of you have experience modding a II and am looking for ways to do it on the cheap. I am a boneyard scrounger, so the more junkyard parts for upgrades (particularly for brakes), the better.
Thanks (and help me!).
if it's not rusty, i don't know how you could resist.
SoCal car, so just a little rust on the hatch. I hear that is REALLY common.
Why the hell not? As popular as Mustang II suspension is in the hot rod world, there are plenty upgrades available. Speedway Motors has some cheap tubular a-arms, coil overs, bigger brakes, etc.
this is true.. the front suspension on the II is beloved by the hotrodders.
You have to do it (/Enable)
it's so close to what that car would bring for scrap weight around here, how can you lose?
at the solo nationals last week...
Here you go, upgrade the 9.25" front brakes to 11" for $255.00, then find a disk brake explorer LSD 8.8 rear axle, and you're in business

That by itself should be enough reason to do it.
Doesn't look like anything wrong to me
Sexy car NO. Cheap car yes.
As I understand it not only do you need to fix the brakes and whatever but you have to spend a lot of money stiffening it up. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but just a thing you need to consider in your $$$math.
That should be on somebody's trailer by now
Just for a little more encouragement. I saw this the other week in NH while we were out to dinner. I had to go get the camera and snap this shot.
