So pulling some weight out of my Civic for my XS build. The A/C system is gone from under the hood but I have the dash out and no sure what I can keep to keep heat and what can go.

One nice thing about a lot of older Japanese cars, the A/C was engineered to be separate, so they could ship cars without it and install it at port of entry.
The heater box and all of the blend/vent controls are in the center, the blower assembly and recirc door are off to the right, the evaporator is in a separate unit between the two. Looks like it can be removed without disconnecting anything else.
You'd just need to fab a way to connect the two. The cheap/no-effort option is to remove the evaporator core, tape the holes shut, and reinstall the empty case. The clean option is to install a non-A/C duct. Probably not very easy to find now, but I bet there were piles of them in dumpsters when the cars were new. (My employer was a Honda tech at the time. He said they usually needed an hour to install air conditioning. They had a lot of practice)
edit: It's available!
$65 though.
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
Where are you seeing it available? Everywhere I see says discontinued. It seems to be this part number 79810-SR3-A01
In reply to 93EXCivic :
I did a search for civic non A/C duct and that came up and it said "in stock".
I click the full link and it said discontinued.
My non A/C RX-7 just has the evaporator removed and the evap holes taped over. Really, the box is just a slightly bulkier version of the non A/C duct (it looks remarkably similar to the Honda part), the difference in weight is an ounce or two of plastic.
