I would actually say that Jags have the "old money" class- the classy class. Big benzes and BMW's say, I just won the lottery and I'm going big.

+1, SO smooth and refined. Other than a Rolls Royce or Bentley, which are in some other class entirely, this is as classy as it gets. Plus, they're cheap these days!

???
my choice...
1st generation Lexus ES300 (round fog lamp type) The lines of the 1st gen ES300 are so graceful, nearly as graceful as an XJ. Some came through with the 5 speed manual. Suspension is taughter then a Camry, but not to say tight. Engine is the 1st gen V6 that failed in trucks, but seems to be less of an issue in the car line. Overall it is a Toyota, and also carries the big "L" to show you've arrived

V8 vs Straight Six. I mostly just needed an excuse for another picture of an XJ.
The Pentas and the fog lights say it's an X308. I'm probably the only person here who likes XJs enough to have noticed though.
To me, class needs a certain level of restraint and balance. Too much chrome or too much flaunting one's wealth would at least get it bumped down from the epitome. But the car also needs to have aesthetically pleasing lines and a feel of quality to it, inside and out.
An E28 BMW 5 series certainly has it.
It wouldn't have been seen this way when new, but I think a lot of early Dodge Darts have it. I think 1964 was the high water mark for the early styling - like it better than the way they'd squared off the front of my '66.
Volvo 144s have it too.

I noticed the fog lights late. I had just typed XJ6R in google images and apparently the one I picked wasn't.
Aww you guys chose my car <3
this is my project, how it arrived two years ago. the window was stuck open and so i had to protect it from the rain for a few days
makes me smile every time i see it even in its poor state
How about a saab 9000 Aero? Maybe a little too modern for some.. but definatly classy in a subdued swedish way
Hmm, when I saw the thread I had only two marques in mind: Bentley and Rolls Royce. You would be surprised how affordable a late 80s early to mid 90s car of that stature is. As in 15-30k, probably more affordable then some of the cars listed. Mind you, just because you can afford to buy, does not mean you can afford to maintain. BUT! These cars, when I usually look at them are meticulously cared for, usually being offered right after a major service with full history. What else do you get? Beautiful cars, exclusivity (a couple thousand built at most), handbuilt (bad or good depending how you look at it) and the best of technology, comfort and prestige of the era.

I will never be able to afford a Duesenberg.

I disagree. That screams White Snake.

Fixed it for you.

This removes of from being a classy car. Sorry.
I was talking to a guy on another forum who works for a Rolls Royce coachbuilder. His example of parts cost was a king pin for one cost $600.
