Driver's delight? Especially at night and sometimes in the rain? The original PBIR, Watkins Glen and Daytona, [before lights and bus stops], Sebring with the original hairpin, and Summit Point. The larger the field the better!

For watching--Road America. World-class facility. Great racing. Great food.
For driving--Blackhawk Farms (South Beloit, IL). Very technical, very hard on brakes--but if you "hit your marks", it was tremendously rewarding...very fun in a low-power car (SpecRX7). Won there a couple of times and even had a class track record for a bit.

They haven't raced Holtville in years.
Yup, I know, I was responding to Frenchy’s question.
And I did check on the why Holtville is no longer used.
San Diego says they “lost access”. That could mean a number of things.

Holtville’s Wiki mentions SCCA ended in 2001. It also mentions expansion proposals as of 2015.

Thank you. I suspect the reduced Navy presence has a great deal to do with it. Young Navy men eager to participate in sports car racing probably did the majority of the staffing and a serious part of the racing crews
During Vietnam there was massive Navy involvement in races at Holtville. ( Riverside too but not as great a percentage) Willow springs was simply too far away from North Island to get much more than a token amount of participation.

Not as much fun for the bigger cars. Blackhawk track is too narrow and too short of straights where big noisy cars could show off. Elkhart Lake and Brainerd were both better for that.

Great question- I've been to the Indy 500 x 22 times and I've been to Road America maybe 60-70x?
Can I really pick one over the other?
To me, Cart at Elkhart Lake. I was pitted next to Al Unser Sr. And his famous crew Chief AJ Agahanion. (Sp?) what great down to earth racer and mechanic. They asked me very politely if I'd give them my spot because it was drier and they worried about getting out of the spot they had. Since I had a 4x4 and a light trailer I was glad to.
They had never raced there and asked my opinion on a lot of things. I told them about the demand on the brakes and the line through the Carousel and kink. They changed everything in the gearbox, and put their biggest brakes and scoops on. Al personally thanked me for the advice. They were constantly changing everything right up to race time but at least they weren't flailing, completely lost.
I for the first time began to understand the personal cost of being a professional racer.
