I currently have the Miata suspension and a 302 with C4 mocked up on the chassis plate. Automatic transmission is a given, not an option

My problem is that I cant let go of the L33 as an option to power this project.

The objection to the L33+autotragic is that the transmission looks huge. The MGB is a bit space constrained at best.

Is there a way to hook an old-school power-glide to this engine? My distant past involved 9 sec drag cars that ran these transmissions, and while I dont want to live with the exact transmission for street use, I wonder if there is a path down this road?

I have a T56 in mine. Fits better than you'd think, my 1972 transmission tunnel was almost the perfect size. The biggest interference was at the bellhousing. I know you're looking for a two-pedal, but at least you'll still have that bellhousing to deal with.

Car Craft has had some articles in the past on mating old-school transmissions to the LS engines, I suspect they're available online.

from what i remember, you can use a spacer or adapter flywheel and bolt any of the old school autos fro a small block chevy to an ls.
