Yeah, detach the track and bolt whatever to the bottom on the recaros. Also; 944s are prevalent in the JY and they have pretty decent seating.

If you want to keep the seat in the Fiat family, have a look at X19 seats. They are similar to the 914 seats in the mounting scheme, but with a bit more padding.
I went through this recently. I ended up with 1998 GTI seats. I had to fab my own mounts, and will recover them to match.
Others to consider are S2000, RSX, prelude, corvette, E30 sport seats (tan ones can be had fairly cheap), and late model GTO. Some will be heavy, but a lot of the weight is in the motors. I would wager that you could pull them out and find a way to fix the seat into a position you like.
Erick, Do you remember the mishap I made with the "racing seat" in the 850?
It touched the door glass and still covered up the E-brake in the center. IT was not a wide seat.
Your primary concerns will be width and height. There is no way you will ever fit integra seats or anything like that in there. My first seat attempt was A2 VW seats and they touched in the middle of the car.
Get some Hunts 16" sportscar seats, the optional upholstery......
...and mount em as low as you can.
The one attempt Joe made at installing Miata seats in his 850 spider had him sitting an inch higher than stock, I am sure that can be improved upon though
Scion xA and xB seats are very narrow and have decent bolstering, but are a bit short front to back which I find not ideal for me. I would imagine the Echo and Yaris are probably the same seats too. Worth slinging a tape measure across and sitting in if you find a set.
Well, if the Fiat seats are that bad, maybe Spitfire seats? While a lot of Spitfire owners have replaced them with Miata seats (which barely fit after a fair amount of cutting and trimming - plus there's that height issue, which some get around by cutting away some of the foam), I personally don't think the stock seats aren't that bad.
You should be able to find somebody local with a set you can at least try out.
I'd love a pair of those Corbeau's for my Mini.

Gah! I really want to go that route, but I'm afraid it's going to be absolutely unbearable. I can imagine plopping my ass into those after they've been cooking in the sun for a few hours. A hot shift knob is bad enough, but the entire backside of me... :cringe:
They certainly fit the lightweight and weatherproof aspect, though.
