My dad fondly remembers how long of a burnout he could do with a 4 cylinder nova and bias ply tires burnouts and the inability to stop or turn...
I get that drifting isn't a pure race-for-speed motorsport but I still think it's fun to watch. I like racing because it's fun, drifting seems to fall under the fun category quite well. I'll most likely never participate in a drift event, but I still think it can be fun to watch. I'd rather rally, myself, but I'll stick with autox for now.
