So quick update on this (if anyone cares). I believe the trans shifting is due to the cold weather. With or without the sensor has made no difference.  Here's the part that pisses me off. So the sensor threw a CEL after about 4 miles. Stayed on while I drove it without the sensor. Went to clear the code before installing the new stuff to see what code it threw. Nothing. No codes stored. No faults detected. Installed the new sensor, CEL goes off instantly and nothing new happens.

So, basically this is a sensor that does nothing, but if not present throws the CEL on but stores no codes. So if you're in a state with emissions testing you'll automatically fail for nothing. To add insult to injurt it costs about twice what a real working sensor that does something costs and you have to remove the entire fender liner to get to the plug.

Oh well, its in, wallet is lighter. Also installed a new t-belt, tensioner and idler and 3 new accessory belts. Car's good for another 60-70k miles.
