My wife just got transfered at work. Her new commute is .6 miles each way. We've always had fuel efficient cars since we were both commuting at least 30 min a day. I figure we should now get a vehicle that uses almost as much fuel in her short commute. My question for grm is what car would you get if fuel economy was not an issue?our pri e range is 5-10k and it should be able to put a car seat or possibly two in the back. I also don't want to have to fix it constantly.

Well dang, that takes out a whole lot of the fun ones. You sure you're not willing to fix it a lot? Then you can throw in Jaguars and Stags and all sorts of other absurd cars.
Though on a semi-serious note, at that price, you're not going back into the 60s muscle cars and such, they're out of your price range. At least the decent condition ones are. And almost everything from the 80's and 90's that you can afford got semi-decent mileage.
With a .6 mile commute, I'd just go looking for things that tickle my funny bone. Bucket list cars. From a dune buggy or sand rail to a rotted out Corvette, etc.

One of the last of the 90s, luxo-boat Caddies would fit your criteria. My landlord drives one. It may also act as a guest room for company.

1 km commute? I'd walk, or ride a bike and put all the money I've saved in the bank. When it accumulates enough, upgrade the project car.
I'll sell you this real cra-, I mean cheap. 500ft-lbs of torque (see it towing a house in the picture), all the room in the world (crew cab, yeah baby!), and it gets 6mpg. The mileage has improved though since my clever use of rust to reduce
weight (I'm an engineer).
Oh, and the bed dumps and it has new re-treaded tires, too!!! And it will still be good if you want to expand your family!
