I'm alive!
The combo of cooler night air and working heater on full blast worked. Drove until I couldn't stay awake last night, stopped around 2:30 am to nap. Truck didn't puke any coolant and couldn't hear/feel boiling in the hoses. Napped about 2 hrs, topped oil. Checked coolant level, here it was:
Topped coolant though I suspected it would just push it out. Sure enough, next fuel stop it pushed out a bit but no boiling. Have not topped it up since and it's been fine.
Currently just entered North Dakota. About 300 miles until home.
Just now:
Had a crazy fog/ice storm, one trailer in the ditch that came apart. I was having wheel spin trying to maintain 50mph. Rear end is open...
Roads are dry and clear now, but it's cold and the heater us no match for the drafty cab. I'm all bundled up.

You rock. Seriously, thank you! I'm hoping I'm on the home stretch and can make it without issue, but it's comforting to know I have an out. I will let you know, and update when I can! :)
Home by bed time?
We're all puhing for you.
Good luck! Hope it hasn't soured you on the truck.
Cool stuff. Sounds like you will make it.
I just want to tell you good luck, we're all counting on you.
As many others have said, I've been checking this thread regularly and am pulling for you to make it home safe and sound!
A great thread! Something you can tell the grandchildren. Applause for resourcefulness and tenacity.

You will have to tell us more about how that went.
You should be about home now, congratulations on completing a great adventure. And thanks for taking us along.
Awesome! Looking forward to the debrief.
This thread started with the question, "what to bring?"
I look forward to the debriefing too and the answer to that question.
Hope you got home! That was a crazy journey.
Home and showered, food soon. Sleep too. I might take the truck to work tomorrow and give it a thorough inspection.
Debrief at a later date. I'm exhausted.
Nothing like a nice long victory nap, well done!
Yay! Epic fly and drive. Well done.
Awesome adventure and thread. Congrats! Looking forward to more updates on the truck as you go through it at home.
Congrats! Now I know why I typically have cars transported to me when I buy them a ways away... Seriously, my skills are lower-medium and I am super impressed by someone that changes a heater core essentially on the side of the road mid trip. That's a hero move.
And here i was bitching about having to drop an inner fender in my shop to fix a firewall leak.
You sir, are real life roadkill material.
You're a brave, brave man.
