Buying an engine hoist this Sunday @ harbour freight. What items to buy that I'm going to need that will help when pulling that engine/tranny?

Big ass chain, and hardware to attach it securely to the block. They even make engine leveling and support bars now. Also, some of those magnetic mats that you throw over the fenders to keep from scratching the paint. Those came in real handy the last time we were pulling the engine out of the Scirocco, with all the leaning over to get that one last thing that was still attached.
short lengths of 4x4 to set engines on. Maybe a cheap furniture dolly or two. (unless your going for a stand)
Like others said... Leveler but with example photo because "value add"!
A couple of cheap furniture dollies are a good idea too - I assume there are two engines in play here - so if there is no engine stand(s) you will place one or both directly in your way. If they can roll around... much easier to maneuver things.
And, a furniture dolly is a must have if you are removing the engine from the bottom instead of the top. Great for storing an engine or transmission on too.

settle down Beavis
And for tips to keep everything tagged and sorted, check out wae's post, here on GRM!
I think HF load leveler is something stupid cheap $25 dollars. You will need to buy bolts/nuts to secure it to the engine if you don't have some laying around. The plastic handle on the HF unit is someone useless.
Thanks guys! Furniture dolly is a great idea as is the load leveler. Harbor freight has a coupon for 25% off on Easter. It will be put to good use.
what kind of an engine are you going to be taking out of what kind of a car?
if it's an old carbureted (or throttle body injected)V6 or V8, skip the load leveler and get a carb lift plate. so much more better than a load leveler in every way, and if it doesn't have the proper bolt pattern for your carb/throttle body, you can drill holes in it to make it work.
and if it is a multiport fuel injected engine and/or an inline of some sort, still skip the load leveler and just get a log chain with links that you can fit a 7/16" bolt thru.. rig it up properly, and you can lift anything at any angle. all a load leveler does is take up space in the garage once you realize it's easier to just use a chain or lift plate.

Kind of agree with this about the load leveler maybe you could find out if the part stores in your area will rent you one that way theres no commitment
