Ok, ok, I think I'll keep the 7. As long as I can get the rear diff done for $500 or less I can still squeeze everything else in the budget. I spent some time today pricing the suspension parts and man are they CHEAP! Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, and Mazdaspeed are going to love me this winter.
Anyone have any info on Gforce Engineering? Just curious how their products stack up?

I have heard very good things about Jim over at G-Force. He wrote a "or the" book about setting up the suspension on 1st gen RX-7s.
Billy at http://www.re-speed.com/ also makes good affordable bits. I have his coilovers and am waiting to install the rack and pinion in the car. His customer service is second to none. Tell him I sent you if you talk to him.
Racing Beat, Mazdaspeed and Mazdatrix are also well know reputable vendors. I have pieces from all of them in my car.

I've been snooping around various forums looking for anything about 1983 FB aftermarket LSDs. Hate to say it, but I can't find any. If you had an 84-85 GSL or GSL-SE, then you could use an FC3S factory or aftermarket LSD. I'm about 80% sure on this; you probably should verify this for yourself.
Mazdatrix sells the clutch discs, including some stronger ones, so you can rebuild the stock LSD. I read one guy had his 84 LSD rebuilt for $430 and added a set of Mazdatrix 4.444 gears to it (dunno if the gears will work in an 83 diff).
Sounds like a Rx-7 GSL-SE parts car could be the ticket - swap all the goodies over to your Rx-7. Probably the cheapest option especially if you can find a dead engine one on the cheap.
Mate, what are you thinking, I can buy tired GSL bodies all day long for $500 or less, plenty of rust but running cars with LSD. The stock 12a GSL diff in any RX7 is similar but mid 83 they went to bigger bearings and axles, this is the one you want for your use keeping the 110 + rims. They have the stronger LSD anyway and less offset making the axles stronger.
Rebuilding calipers is cheap and easy, the rest is bolt in.
2nd gen diff center will not fit the 1st gen rear in any model.
If you need trim, body or almost any other parts let me know, I have about three cars worth of parts. I do not have a spare GSL rear at this time though.

On the rear diff, my car is a mid 83, so I have yet to determine if it's the "big" or "small" rear. The rear in John's mish-mash 82 is unknown but rear disc. It also works, so I may just slap it in completely. Mine already has rear discs but they need a rebuild anyways.
Why not just yank the OMP and pre-mix to save some money? I know those aren't cheap to replace, I used to have an FC

I did mine a year or so ago. Pretty easy to do but it seeps a little bit likely do to my rebuilding skillz.
My OMP works, it just leaks. I'm pretty sure it's the gasket to the engine. I'm pre-mixing slightly right now to be on the safe side.

you can. i just parted out my STS miata b/c i couldn't find any buyers for the prepped car at ~$3300.
the "drive what you like" advice is good. it's probably going to be cheaper to refurbish a miata than the RX-7.
My thought is that your budget is too small to dig yourself out of the hole entirely.
3k is not going to get your current ride fixed up to dependable status.
3k is not going to buy you much more than another disposable car that will be knackered in a season. I think someone else pointed this out.
