why is it not running?

i'd get it running, flush the brake fluid 100%, check / change the brake pads, install a trans cooler if it doesn't already have one, and run it.

SilverFleet I never thought it was that complicated to swap in an sbc. People talk about that swap like it legos. You're right, when I decide to attempt an engine/trans swap I'll research the ls/t56 more carefully.

AngryCorvair No clue why its not running at the moment. March 2010 I had the fusible link harness replaced. could be a loose connections somewhere. I replaced the battery and nothing happened. I'm taking it into the shop at the end of this week. I'll have them flush all the brake fluid, change the pads, maybe even the rotors. It hasnt been moved in over a year, march 2010.

I live in bloomfield. I work in Farmington, not far from you at all. Which events do you attend?

Thunderzy, poke around here and similar sites.

My father always told me that if you can read you can cook. You can convert this from automatic to stick, it may just take a bit longer than if a professional did it. Do the research, do the job; it sounds like a nice and rewarding project.

Thanks for the link Dan. I'll definitely check it out. Hopefully I can get her to the shop tomorrow morning. I'm excited.

Why not keep the 403? They're good engines.

  • Classic Motorsports Mitty
  • Grassroots Motorsports $20xx Challenge

I used to do a couple of AROC-Detroit or DCSCC autocrosses every year, but haven't made it a priority in recent years. kids, house, other projects are always higher on the list.

i'm with angry corvair on this one. you can wait around forever chasing down every issue to make it the perfect track car, or you can get it running and running safe and build as you go. get it running, service the brakes, and check it thoroughly for loose bolts, fluid leaks, and broken bits the first weekend. deal with the suspension bits for the second weekend (since you already have them), and keep yu eyes out for a good swap candidate (v8 of some sort with a manual trans) from there on out.

swapping it isnt legos. but it isnt impossible either. i am going form a carburated 3rd gen with an auto to an LS with t56 now and you have to replace a lot of things like tank lines, fuel pump, pedals, driveshaft etc. this is MUCH easier with a running donor car to start with. find something running..... but cheap cause its fugly! early 4th gens are definitely getting into that catagory around here. i imaging they are getting there faster in rust country.

Dang! You just missed the Motor State Challenge at Ginger Man. It's a road race/autocross event geared specific towards muscle cars. I help organize the event. Had you attended, you would know exactly what to do. Here's Danny Popp playing Cat and Mouse with a 2nd gen F-body. Link to more pix and details. http://www.motorstate.com/mschallenge.htm

Oh yeah... one more thing about the 403:

Siamesed cylinder walls. If you plan on rebuilding one, don't go over 0.030 overbore, or you will hit coolant passages.

My 403 is in good shape and has some upgrades from the previous owner. Camshaft, rocker arms, msd ignition, fuel pump and a bunch of chrome bits.
