It's time to replace the tires on my 1997 Boxster and I want to upgrade the wheels at the same time.
My plan was to put 18" BBS wheels on it, but then I saw that they are $960 each...
I still want to go +2 to 18" but I don't want to spend $4K on wheels. I don't like the "Turbo Twist" wheels that are so popular and I don't want any "big-blingin'" wheels - I'd like to keep the car looking relatively stock.
Anybody have any inspired ideas?
This is the car:

I like these a lot! Granted they're still expensive, but the RS-GT is one of my favorites.
BBS RS-GT
These Antera wheels are cool too.

The BBS RS-GTs are my favorite too. The Hartmann replicas look good, too.
I'm planning on adding a GT3 front bumper and side skirts to my car and I want it to look like something Porsche might have built. I just wish the car were silver or seal gray...

Has anyone ever put the classic Fuchs on one of those? One of my all time favorite wheels. It would be a neat classic Porsche look.

Well, if it were any other car, it would be cheaper. Since Porsche only uses the 5x130mm bolt pattern, you get to pay a bit of Porsche tax or buy adapters to change the pattern to something more common.
The only other suggestion I have is to look to other Porsche racers/owners to buy something gently used.

I'm surprised there's never been a modern version of the Fuchs, a la the newschool versions of the Cragar SS and AR Torq Thrusts.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

There have been a couple of OEM designs that were Fuchs-inspired... But, meh.
I went with 996 18" two-piece Sport Design IIs on my 928. I wish I had saved them for my own 996 when I had it later.
It was several years ago now, but I recall picking up the entire set with MMX4s for about a grand at our PCA-favored Porsche dealer parts counter; take offs from a new car.
What about the Mk1 GT3 wheels?
I think Porsche calls them "Sport Design" or something.
Is there a company that makes replicas? Preferably with a little negative offset...
There is a company making three piece forged fuchs replicas. They can make nearly any offset but I think they are $3200for a set.

Personally I would look for a set of low mileage take-off OEM wheels. You can get some awesome deals on a wheel and tire package that way.

The factory ones used are pretty cheap, well for porsche parts. A lot of the "exclusive" aero cars from 99-00 came with them.

So, after much deliberation, and since it's time for tires (again!) I've decided on a set of 18" BBS RS GT 3pc wheels with dark, argent silver centers for the Boxster.
My new question is... Does anyone know how much negative offset I can run? This is purely for cosmetic reasons; I think 'deep dish' BBS wheels look cool and might toughen up my little hausfrau Porsche..

Those are my favorite wheel ever. I love the blue, but I am way to conservative to ever put those on my car.

Boxster + mesh ( bbs, fikse, etc) + fat lip = the only way I will ever get excited over a boxster in an aesthetic sense.

ooooh, I've got a Boxster, and I need bigger wheels...
My MG is leaking fuel profusely out of a home-welded aluminum tank that's going to take hours and weekends to repair while getting high on gas fumes (not the fun kind of high). I hate you.
Change the bolt pattern to 4x100 and I'll sell you my OEM miata daisy's for $1000. Save you some cash and you can fit smaller brakes. That'll give me just enough to pay my guy to destroy this car.

Precisely why I'm done working on old British cars.
A good friend has a bumper sticker on the back of his MGB-GT that reads, "any bits seen falling off this car are of the highest English craftsmanship"
That said, my old Porsches aren't much more fun to work on
yes.. but aircooled porsches are pretty simple to wrench on

They sure are. They pay the bills and keep the lights on in my shop, too. That said, have you ever changed a timing chain in a 911 or tried to tune and/or recalibrate the mechanical fuel injection in an early 911? Not rocket science, but not fun work either.
Does anyone know how much negative offset I can run on the Boxster wheels?
I thought this was GRM. You guys are suggesting wheel and tire sets more expensive than the cars you drive.
