I might have the opportunity to pick up my parents' '05 Accord for free (or close to it). It is a 4 door, sedan ,slick top, manual. It drives pretty nice for 225k and I've always enjoyed hooning around in it.
*My first thoughts are to throw some bigger sways and sticky tires on it and call it a day.
* What I would REALLY like to do is kswap a miata with it (though I can't remember if the K24A4 is compatible with any of the standard K-miata swaps). Additionally, this is probably far too much of an expense for me to undertake right now.
* Find an '88-00 civic/integra and swap it. These have always been some of my favorite chassis, but I'm not sure the expense and engineering PIA makes it worth it over D/B series build.
* Find a similar gen 4cyl coupe with a bad auto transmission and manual swap it. Part out the rest of the sedan. This option exists only because I like the coupes more and manual, 4 cyl, slick top coupes seem to command a premium.
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud, but what does the hive say?

If it were me, I'd drive it as-is for a while, then get annoyed with all of the things that are worn out on it after 225k. I would fix all of those things, and then, worried about spending more money on it because its old, sell it. Then regret.
I'm an awful beater owner.
They make nice appliances. Berking with it removes the nice appliance factor and tries to turn it into something it ain't.
Drive it, sell it at a huge profit when you get bored with it. 4 door manual is kind of rare, and I don't think I have ever seen one without a sunroof. There's got to be at least two Accord pervs who would fight each other for it.
Where is it? Four cylinder manual Accords are rad.

Sounds like the same configuration and year as my dad's accord, manual four door and slick top. 190k+ miles on it and it has been solid. Though as much as I love a manual accord, the gearing is really tall on it, really needs a shorter ratio trans.
My 4door Integra GSR has 203 k miles today. Mint condition
bone stock. I put koni yellows on it and sticky advan neova 200TW tires. I enjoy driving it just like that
put sticky rubber on that accord and enjoy it

that didn't take long. just need another one, and to record the fight because youtube revenue.
Pfffttt. Don't waste your time on that POC. Shift it on to me and go buy a Miater.
Couple things,
when it comes to a K swap, this is not the droid you're looking for...unless you want just more torque over the stock 1.8.. there's not a lot of benefit to running this K24 when the proper K24's are cheap(under $1k) and plentiful. the K24a4 in that car has no VTEC on the exhaust side and it has piston designs that are incompatible with the head from the other K series that have VTEC on both cams.
if you want to track the car, you'll need to worry about oil starve, the oiling on that motor is made for pedestrian use.. so less grip is better..
You can take the time to read through Seth's Traccord build and it will give you an idea of what you're working with. I totally support the idea, but you need to be very upfront with what your goals are, before going down that road. it's a road that has more practicality and space and a great suspension setup at its core.... but it's not the most effective tool for the job when it comes to going fast on track unless you spend time and money developing it.
Spacecadet is right about everything above. They're just so good at being cars though. So damn good.
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
They are very nice cars. I'd rather have a TSX, but, you know, those also cost money.
Thanks guys. Just about what I thought. Didn’t realize the a4 wasn’t “real” vtec, as they say. Looks like my initial inclination was pretty much on the money. I have no plans on tracking it, at least not in any competitive way. But I have been following Seth’s Tracccord and agree that it’s very cool.
I think I would drive it through the winter, give it an all-day detail in a few months, and sell on for a profit.
