a Lincoln LS equipped with a V6, manual transmission, if you could get one for $500 ?
I would build a Locost project.
I think the V6 and the IRS will be great for it, the front suspension will need to be redone using a shorter spindle but it's not impossible.
In reply to John Brown:
I Googled images of the suspension. The front upright certainly is different.Rear A-arms almost look like they could be used in a front suspension system, too.
Assuming I had the money and skills and tools, swap the body with that of the '74 Capri out in Portland from the other thread, mixing with a few choice parts from my '73.
Rallycross the E36 M3 out of it until it died. Then sell it to the junkyard for scrap, considering the $150 hit well spent.
+1 for crapcan racing. Sell parts to pay for reliability upgrades and a brake vent system with cheap performance pads. Cut the springs and maybe put cheap performance shocks on it if it'll fit in the budget.
I was thinking Challenge, but it's pretty hefty, but the drive train could be used in something much lighter.
Jenvey ITBs, stroker bottom-end and Megasquirt?
LS Swap?
Boost?
I think such a car would be a GREAT alternative to an IS300.
Completely gut it, make it run well, add sticky tires, drive to FL in October for the $2014 Challenge...
I harvested the aluminum rear knuckles from one and fit them with spherical bearings for a home-made IRS I've been trying to complete for 2 years now... and I paid $150 just for those bits.
The rest of the IRS is heavy and not much good for sporting intentions on something as light as a locost - but it fits under a mustang from what I read on the interwebz. So... I'd buy an S197 and upgrade it
Seriously - an LS swapped LS manual would be a sweet cruiser. I'd probably pass if the condition was as bad I suspect a $500 LS would be as I'd want a nice one to cruise in.
