I only briefly glanced at the breakdown, but it was $1600-$1700 for some kind of “glass & dent protection” and probably undercoating & other nonsense.

That trucoat's installed at the factory. There's nothing they can do

Oh you betcha!
Damn. If anybody can live with black, this looks to be a pretty killer deal:
The Ford dealership I bought my FiST from last year has 3 2017 Focus RS2's still brand new. I might go kick some tires on Saturday and see how much they want to sell one of them when I'm in town visiting my parents.
I'm still by tempted by these, but the used ones have depreciated so hard, even a super cheap new one doesn't seem like a good buy.
I just looked, there are still a few dealers trying to sell these at $10-20k over MSRP.
What in the actual?

I've been having similar counter arguments in my head. A decent Evo 8/9 with a winter beater Silverado goes for about what a Focus RS is new. The dealership I'm scoping out is currently offering $4400 off of MSRP through a variety of rebates.
Joe Gearin said:Poopie,
Offer them $30K, or whatever you consider bottom-barrel pricing. They will say no, give them your phone number. Call, or stop back in again in a few weeks. (providing you actually like the car) If they still say no....... come back a couple of weeks later. Each time tell them--- $30K is my number and I'll buy the car today. Wear them down. Every day that car sits on the lot, it's costing them $$$. The more time they wait, the more $$ they waste. If you really want to piss them off, turn their words back upon them...... " Mr Dealer guy, what's it going to take for you to sell this car today?" Play their game.....beat them at it.
You are in the enviable position of not NEEDING the car, you just think you may like it. Use this to your advantage, and you'll drive them to the brink before they finally relent. Also, capture the dealer's tears when they finally break down.......car dealer tears are even more potent than the tears of a gypsy!
This right here is the 'art of the deal'

LMK how it goes. These guys seem stuck at $37.5 PLUS $1700 in bullE36 M3 and peanuts on my trade. I’m pretty much over it at this point.

Ever wonder how cars pop up decades later, unsold at some random dealership? Yeah. This sort of E36 M3 among others causes it. I hope those dealers fall flat on their nose.

Yeah, it just sucks because it crap like that killed the car too.

Agreed. Ford could have gotten all of the EVO and STi owners that were looking to trade up, really gotten some excitement in the showrooms for people who don't want a Mustang or a truck. Instead the dealers pissed many of them off with their antics, which were compounded with Ford's disaster in production order (the lottery system was not widely publisized and many people placing orders had to find out the hard way) and the headgasket mixup.
There is an RS2 for $36,999 at a dealer near me, but who knows what they'd try and tack on once you talk price. Otherwise, still hanging around 38-40. Starting to see used ones with really low miles for 35-36, wonder how long until they start dropping...
Maybe they'd sell more of these if they actually let people test drive them instead of treating it like it's a Ford GT.

Are we talking about the same car? I don’t think I’ve seen a decent used one under $35k!

This thread made me dig out a particular competing mag I had laying around from 2016 to reread the review. I've always been interested in these and now no more tsk tsk tsk .....Stefan what is this lottery of what you speak???? even more nonsense on top of an already bad business decision?
