TOP PRICE! $1300-1000 as a winter city beater less if I needed to use 5th gear and had to fixing it.
I wouldn't give him more than 500 for it, in all honesty. I know what "slight" rust is in these cars. They hide it well until it's too late.
I have a chance to buy it for 600. I am not really interested but wanted to gauge if I could flip it for 900-1200 or so. Us GRMers are notoriusly frugal. I figured you will give me a real world potential sale price. Thanks for the opinions.
Then it would be a winter beater. Now is the time to sell it, if it runs well, no chuck engine light you should do OK, unless you have to put $$$ into it to sell.
Who the hell has one with that many miles and "light" rust up here? And yeah, you could PROBABLY flip it as a winter beater with no major issues. I'd almost consider it as an ice racing slut. I'm fairly well versed with these cars, and I have access to spares. 600 might be worth it.... I'd have to see it first knowing it's an MN car. The trans is un-fun to get at. I don't advise attempting a clutch job yourself unless you hate life. In any event- if you want a second set of eyes on it, and it's in the metro, I can take a look with you if you'd like.
Thanks for the offer mndsm. It is in Rochester I chanced on it looking at another car. Apparently it was from wisconsin and got traded in at a small lot in town. It does indeed have minimal rust and some clunks in the rear but other than the filth it runs ok enough. I was just so surprised I could get a running driving car less than a decade old for 600 in MN. My thought was if I couldnt sell it, I could run it in rtf autox or something. I already have a winter beater; a 1995 camry wagon that so far has been quite reliable. I will sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning. Thanks all.
I know the small lots in Roch quite well. It would make a decent autox slut. The clunks in the rear are likely shot RSB bearings. Not a big deal.

And when I said bearings, I meant bushings. OR the endlinks. the endlinks in these are notoriously cheap and terrible. Either way, easy fix.
I actually just ordered all new bushings for SWMBO's 2005 Mazda 3.. It has about 200k, the rear bushings were leaving the control arm, and one of the springs were broken.. Hence the source of my clunk..
It's a surprisingly easy car to work on, but I'd be extremely wary of rust on any car in the rust belt with 400k :)
I decided to pass.As I get older, I realize the true importance of time. I just dont want to spend the time to deal with it. I would rather wait and spend more on something I truly desire. Besides SWMBO is getting tired of all my auto rescue projects. She says "get one good one so i can have some rest". I will take her up on that when the right deal comes along. Thanks all for your input.
