To sell, not buy. I have been tasked to sell my wife's aunt's car and need to get some ideas on pricing. Would like to get decent money for her (98 years old and in a nursing home right now) but also looking for a fairly quick sale.

1963 Buick LeSabre 4 door Sedan 62009 miles Two owners, she inherited it from her brother who bought it new. Very basic 4 door family sedan.
Car has had regular service: Oil and filter change every 3000 miles from new.
It is in very good mechanical shape, runs great, fairly new brakes, etc.
It has some rust on rear fenders in front of wheel well, and will need new exhaust and battery.

It's probably not that desirable to most, but would make a great starter classic car for someone who wants to get into the hobby.

I take it its a 6-Cyl/Auto?

I would say $6000 isn't a bad starting point.

Should have a 401 nailhead, I think.

Fast sale $3k, slowest sale, wait till spring, then probably double that. Add a little based on powertrain, a bit more for V8 and/or manual on the floor. Lots more for BIG V8.

I think it says 401 or 410? Wildcat on the air cleaner. It is an automatic transmission.

My gut guess says 6k would be top dollar and 3k would be fast/easy, so there's a pattern forming around those numbers.

Unpopular make, unpopular body style, auto transmission, and rust. $4000 if the rust and paint aren't too bad.

I bought one like that in '74 or '75 for $300. It has more miles on it but still less than 100K IIRC. I drove it for another 100K & gave it to my baby brother when it started overheating. He replaced radiator, water pump, etc & drove it for another 30K or so then sold it for $100. Wish I'd kept it.

Thanks for the opinions, now all I have to do is get it on Craigslist, etc. The owner would be happy to get $2K out of it so I will probably list it at $2500 so we can get a quick sale.

I'd start at $3000.

Air cleaner should say "Wildcat 425" which would be the torque rating, not the engine size (Buick quirk). That'd be the 401ci nailhead. There was also a 364ci (IIRC) nailhead available in the lower end models, like the Le Sabre, so it could be that one. Is the trans still the 3-speed "switch pitch converter" version?

Would love to but 2 years ago when she quit driving she dropped the insurance and turned in the tags. Wish she had asked my advice.

In reply to Hal:

Go to DMV, buy a "Trip Permit", bring to C&C, sell car. New owner drives to home/to DMV on trip permit and turns in Bill of Sale & Title, gets new permanent plates. Simple.

I had a 64 Electra 225. Was just thinking the other day how cool that car was and wish I had it back.
