A dog barked outside and now I'm afraid to go out there in case it got loose and wants to eat me while I'm greasing slide pins.
BLIND MECHANIC HIRED AT SEATTLE AUTO SHOP SALEM, OR (KTRK) -- Starting a new job can be hard, but one mechanic is facing a challenge, tougher than many of us will ever know. Christopher Goodman is blind. Goodman had been a mechanic for more than 20 years, when he lost his sight in 2012. Yet he is determined to keep doing the job he loves. After vocational training, he walked into a Salem auto shop and asked for a job. And now, he has been working there for the past three months. Goodman said his father -- a marine -- raised him to overcome challenges. So that's what he decided to do. Goodman said, "I kept feeling that fear all the time, being nervous about everything and having that anxiety. And I just decided, I'm not going to live like that." At the shop, Goodman uses a special computer program to input information. He also helps other mechanics in the shop when he can, relying on his other senses and his memory.
Huh, I didn't know Salem was a suburb of Seattle. Must be one heck of a commute!
