I usually follow the manufactures rrecommendations and break in my car for the first 500 miles.
For the last year I have been hearing chatter in my neighborhood (Nextdoor app/website) that there have been vehicle break-ins. Some security footage has shown what looks to be teenagers checking for unlocked cars.
Apparently last night I forgot to lock my wife's SUV when I moved it to work in the driveway. Her wallet was dumped out on her front seat and ashtray full of coins cleaned out. Luckily only cash ($22) was taken and no interest in the CCs or Nav unit. Neighbor also had his ashtray cleaned out and glove box rummaged through. Looks to be just crimes of opportunity. Pretty ironic it happened on a Wednesday night
yes, they are crimes of opportunity. I had one of my cars broken into once.. they stole all the change and the radio.. but never checked the trunk which had over $500 in hand tools in it

If I live to be a thousand years old, I will never be able to understand how anyone can possibly be so naïve to leave their wallet in a car.
My wife had her car gone through once, we assume she left it open, they took some change, but the weird thing was they left one of those binders full of cds. I'm guessing they either forgot it or got startled and ran off. Some decent ces , nothing great. Billy Joel greatest hits, 80s rock hits, best of lynard skynard stuff like that

Sorry, too easy.
Ah, one of those people who think that anyone who's older than they are must be at least 80 years old. Funny.
If I knew there were kids walking around testing door handles, I'd be hooking up an electric fence to the car and watering down the concrete.
Although, more seriously, motion sensing lights are good for stuff like this.
The last two times I had a car broken into the doors were unlocked. The first time they ripped the lock cylinder out of the door and the second time the broke a rear window. I had left the doors open to try and prevent such nonsense since there was nothing in the car worth taking.
False. Most car break ins happen the times cars are parked on the University of North Carolina of Charlotte's (or surrounding apartment complexes) Parking Lots.
Seriously, car break ins were insane at my college. Not sure how things are these days.
A radio talk show host around here has a father who was a judge. His assessment as to how to solve the vast majority of crime issue in the US was to:
"Lock up every male between the age of 16 and 24"
A less extreme version of that of course would be to just throw them into the military or similar service.

You and me both, but I haven't been able to convince my wife otherwise.
You'll need to log in to post.
